REQUIRED:

General Purpose:

To serve as the chief administrator of a school in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities of a principal include, but are not limited to:

Curriculum and Instruction:

1. Ensure that teachers are teaching from the North Carolina State Standards and Essential Standards
2. Foster an environment conducive to Personalized Learning
3. Develop remediation and enrichment plans to meet the needs of students
4. Constantly review and research programs that may be beneficial to the learning environment of the school
5. Collaborate with teachers about best practices for instruction
6. Evaluate and purchase appropriate instructional resources

Student Affairs:

1. Develop and enforce a school-wide student discipline policy
2. Evaluate student performance to determine the promotion or retention of each student
3. Constantly evaluate student progress
4. Implement the MTSS process for engaging every student in the school
5. Ensures the safety of students by establishing an appropriate supervision schedule
6. Implements crisis response in accordance with district safety procedures and policies
7. Serve or assign an appropriate person to serve as the LEA representative for IEP meetings

Staff Growth:

1. Conduct teacher, teacher assistant, custodian, and other staff evaluations as required
2. Develop growth plans or action plans as needed for teachers or other staff
3. Perform walk-throughs to help teachers improve their instruction (not evaluative)
4. Implement appropriate professional development opportunities based on the needs of the staff
5. Maintain a collaborative culture to create a family atmosphere
6. Develop strategies to promote staff retention

Policies and Procedures:

1. Be aware of and carry out Board of Education policies
2. Establish a School Improvement Team and be an integral part of developing, implementing, and reviewing the school improvement plan
3. Conduct fire drills as required by law and inspect the property for potential fire and safety hazards
4. Report certain discipline acts to the superintendent and law enforcement as required by law
5. Review the student handbook annually and make needed updates
6. Make students and parents aware of the Student Code of Conduct
7. Consistent implementation/administration of school and district policies and procedures 

Managerial:

1. Develop appropriate schedules (bell schedule, class schedule, 2-hour delay schedule, duty schedule, etc.)
2. Assign students to classes
3. Attend after-school events (ball games, parent meetings, concerts, special events, etc.)
4. Manage the busing of students to and from school
5. Make required reports to the superintendent and board of education
6. Review the needs of the school and appropriate monies to support those needs
7. Ability to manage conflict and mediate crucial conversations effectively 
8. Transfer student records as required by law

Communication:

1. Have positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community
2. Use multiple means of communication (Apptegy, marquee, newsletters, school websites, etc.) to keep students, staff, parents, and the community informed of events and activities at the school
3. Communicate with other schools in and outside of the district to improve student learning
4. Solicit feedback from stakeholders (staff, student, parent) to improve school outcomes
