Job Summary
The Surgical/Orthopedic Staff RN provides high-quality nursing care to young adult, adult, and elderly patients using the nursing process. The role supports pre- and post-operative surgical care, orthopedic care, and complex clinical needs while adhering to established standards, safety guidelines, and evidence-based practice.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Care
- Perform complete head-to-toe assessments and ongoing reassessments per policy.
- Provide pre- and post-operative care across specialties: general, bariatric, orthopedic, trauma, neurosurgical, genitourinary, etc.
- Deliver age-specific, patient-centered care supporting physiologic functioning and hemodynamic monitoring.
- Administer medications, specialized IV drips/titration, IV therapy, transfusion therapy, and central line access.
- Manage pain, chest tubes, traction, PEG/G-tube/J-tube care, and surgical drainage systems (Percutaneous, Sump, JP, Hemovac).
- Perform NIH Stroke Scale assessments.
- Maintain accurate, timely nursing documentation.
Patient & Family Support
- Treat patients and families with dignity and respect; maintain confidentiality.
- Identify psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs.
- Involve patients/families in individualized care planning and education.
- Act as a patient advocate at all times.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Consult and collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
- Assist with surgical/clinical procedures as needed.
- Supervise and allocate work to healthcare staff; function as a preceptor for new employees.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives.
Operations & Compliance
- Ensure proper functioning of patient-care equipment and maintain adequate supplies.
- Support cost-containment efforts.
- Follow all infection control, safety, and organizational policies.
- Perform additional duties such as assisting with patient transport or housekeeping as needed.
- Maintain professional conduct, productivity, and flexibility under pressure.

Education & Licensure
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
- Active RN license
- Certifications: CPR, BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, EKG
- Experience: Minimum 2 years required; 5 years preferred
- Travel nursing experience required
Job Type: Contract
Pay: Up to $55.00 per hour
