The Director of Patient Financial Services provides strategic direction and daily oversight of our billing and outreach operations. This leadership position ensures timely, accurate billing and collections, maximizes patient service revenue, and fosters a supportive, growth-oriented environment for billing staff.
- Lead and supervise billing operations across medical and dental services
- Oversee and support Billing and Outreach staff to ensure efficient workflows
- Serve as a liaison with the electronic health record (EHR) vendor to maintain system functionality
- Monitor third-party billing processes, delegate tasks, and ensure compliance with payer requirements
- Work directly with insurance companies to resolve issues and optimize reimbursements
- Maintain oversight of staffing levels and department schedules to ensure adequate coverage
- Support billing staff with training, updates, and professional development
- Approve and review employee timecards and address staffing adjustments as needed
- Assist in the annual financial audit, including organizing and preparing audit documentation
- Ensure compliance with finance policies, Joint Commission standards, and corporate procedures
- Serve as a resource for satellite offices regarding billing and collections
- Participate in credentialing committee activities
- Act as a backup when necessary for billing or outreach positions
- Engage in Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) initiatives and work collaboratively with the Clinical Care Team
- Disseminate policy and regulatory updates to relevant team members
- Other duties as assigned by leadership
- Associate’s Degree required (Bachelor’s preferred); combination of education and experience accepted
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory or management experience in billing or revenue cycle
- Strong working knowledge of medical/dental billing systems and payer guidelines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and EHR/practice management systems
- Exceptional communication, judgment, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to motivate and lead teams while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism
- Demonstrated ability to manage collections and resolve account discrepancies
