Description

Principal Function: The Exhibit and Technology Support Specialist serves in a dual-purpose role of technical maintenance, repair, configuration and installation for Museum exhibits including audio/video and computer hardware and software components. Additionally, this position responds to general use of technology support requests from staff (computer, network, software) which includes proactive and diagnostic resolution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

Exhibit Technology Maintenance and repair

  • Conduct routine checks of exhibit spaces to identify and report any malfunctions or damage to interactive displays and lighting.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on computer-based and audio-visual devices.
  • Troubleshoot and fix technical issues, which can include network failures, electronic equipment problems and software failures.
  • Create and maintain detailed maintenance records, including information related to warranties.

Exhibit Technology Documentation and inventory

  • Develop technical documentation for new and repaired exhibits, such as schematic diagrams and parts lists.
  • Source and order replacement components and supplies as needed. 

Exhibit Technology Operational Support

  • Serve as an on-call resource to respond to exhibit technical malfunctions during operating hours.
  • Collaborate with staff, vendors and volunteers, providing technical guidance where necessary.
  • Maintain all workspaces as clean, organized and safe.

Conner Prairie Technology Support Responsibilities

  • Keep confidential information private and secure.
  • Report any suspected data and/or network security risk to Director of Information Technology or designee via phone call or in-person immediately.
  • Acknowledge and respond to service requests tickets in a timely manner to resolve computer hardware, software, and network-related issues.
  • Approach all tasks with a professional and helpful customer service attitude.
  • Install/upgrade hardware and software only as approved by supervisor.
  • Create documentation and provide training for staff on the use of technology.
  • Provide on-going technical assistance and guidance to staff via phone, email, remote access tool or in-person until each issue is ultimately resolved.

Conner Prairie Technology Support Common Tasks

  • Monitor assigned systems and address identified issues to prevent downtime. 
  • Configure and maintain user accounts and access permissions. 
  • Collaborate with other technology staff and departments to implement approved technologies. 
  • Test and document new software and hardware before deployment.
  • Update technology inventory when hardware is deployed and/or retired.
  • Communicate identified resources needs to Director of Information Technology.
  • Conduct on-going maintenance to ensure technology systems operate efficiently and resources are available.
  • Maintain all workspaces as clean, organized and safe.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a technical support role.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to working in wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and outdoor weather conditions. The employee will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Conner Prairie Museum, Inc. is generally open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, this position will be required to work beyond these hours and when open for special events.
