About the Role
A dynamic and inclusive charter school in Northwest Washington, D.C., is seeking a dedicated 8th Grade Math Teacher to join its collaborative and mission-driven middle school team for the 2025 school year.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about mathematics instruction and committed to helping students build strong conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and academic confidence as they prepare for high school. This position offers the opportunity to work in small classes within a supportive environment that prioritizes equity, growth, and rigorous learning for all scholars.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned math lessons that support deep conceptual understanding and real-world application.
- Teach core math content areas such as pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry with a focus on critical thinking and reasoning.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies—including hands-on activities, inquiry-based learning, and technology integration—to meet diverse learning needs.
- Analyze formative and summative assessment data to guide instruction, track progress, and close achievement gaps.
- Collaborate with colleagues, instructional coaches, and special education teachers to differentiate instruction and ensure all students are supported.
- Maintain clear communication with families and school leaders about student growth, goals, and progress.
- Foster a classroom culture that promotes perseverance, curiosity, and a growth mindset in mathematics.
- Participate in professional learning communities, curriculum development, and school-based initiatives.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Certification:
- Valid teaching certification in Mathematics or eligibility to obtain certification.
- SPED certification or willingness to take the SPED Praxis preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, ideally at the middle school level.
- Experience differentiating instruction and supporting students across a range of ability levels is highly desirable.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of math pedagogy and middle school standards.
- Ability to foster engagement, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
