About the Role
A dynamic, student-focused charter high school in Northwest Washington, D.C., is seeking a dedicated 9th Grade World History Teacher to join our instructional team for the 2025 school year. This is an excellent opportunity for an educator passionate about history and committed to fostering a deep understanding of global events, cultures, and historical perspectives.
The successful candidate will design and deliver engaging, rigorous instruction that helps students develop critical thinking, analytical skills, and a broader understanding of the world. Through interactive lessons, students will explore the complex forces that have shaped societies and continue to influence the world today.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver high-quality, standards-aligned instruction in 9th-grade World History, covering key global events, historical themes, and geographical regions.
- Develop lessons that promote historical inquiry, critical thinking, and analytical skills, using primary and secondary sources, group discussions, and hands-on activities.
- Create a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, respect for diverse perspectives, and a growth mindset toward learning history.
- Design differentiated lessons to meet the needs of all learners, including English language learners and students with IEPs, through scaffolding, small-group instruction, and varied learning modalities.
- Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and adjust instruction as needed to ensure mastery of key concepts.
- Provide constructive feedback that helps students deepen their understanding and improve their academic skills.
- Collaborate with grade-level and social studies teams to create cohesive units, assessments, and instructional strategies.
- Maintain consistent, open communication with families to support student engagement and achievement.
- Participate in professional development to enhance teaching practices and contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of classroom teaching experience, ideally in social studies or history.
- Experience planning and delivering standards-aligned instruction with a focus on historical inquiry and critical thinking.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of 9th-grade World History content and best practices for history instruction.
- Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students and foster an engaging, inclusive classroom culture.
- Effective use of instructional strategies that encourage historical analysis and deep understanding of global events.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
