Job Title: Exhibit Lead
FLSA: Exempt (40 hours a week)
Reports To: Exhibit Manager
Wage Range: $48,000-$62,000
Summary
Serving more than 250,000 adults and children each year, the Connecticut Science Center is the state’s premier destination for informal science learning, a top tourist attraction, a hub for teacher training, and one of the state’s foremost resources for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The Exhibit Department is responsible for the Science Center’s creation, development and maintenance of all exhibit functions. In coordination with the Exhibits manager, this supervisory position will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Exhibits department. This position will also work as part of the exhibits team to maintain, upgrade, and fabricate exhibits through the use and implementation of carpentry, electronic, audio/video/programming, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components and other technologies and components as needed.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead and supervise the exhibit technicians, overseeing the daily project work and responding to exhibit service calls.
· Implement, revise and update the Exhibit Department’s’ preventative maintenance plan through scheduled inspections, maintenance, and upgrades.
· Assist with general maintenance and repair of exhibits while maintaining CSC’s quality, accessibility, safety, and design standards.
· Communicate and coordinate between the Exhibits team and other departments for events, exhibit production and other projects.
· Oversee and keep a clean, orderly and safe working environment. Proactively plan, communicate and implement routines and solutions to accomplish Exhibit department goals
· Perform regular assessments of existing exhibits/exhibitions for relevancy and alignment with current and future institutional objectives.
· Construct and install exhibit structures and other exhibition elements using a range of materials, tools and equipment as required by a given project.
· Maintain, upgrade and fabricate exhibit components through the use and implementation of carpentry, electronics, a/v and computer, mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics and other technologies and systems as required.
· Support institutional performance objectives regarding exhibit up-time and readiness.
· Assist in the installation and strike of traveling exhibitions, including, but not limited to, loading and unloading of trucks, packing and unpacking of crates, installation and teardown of exhibit components, and provide technical support for visiting installation crew.
· Assist and comply with shop safety and organization.
· Work collaboratively with the team on content development from conceptualizing to design formats that are impactful, inspiring, accessible, engaging, understandable and inclusive.
· Work collaboratively on the development of other large-scale capital projects.
· Other duties as assigned.
