What are the responsibilities and job description for the ClimateHaven - Operations Manager position at Connecticut Innovations?
Come join ClimateHaven!!!
CLIMATEHAVEN supports startups building breakthrough solutions in energy and climate resilience. We help founders move from lab to market through hands-on company-building support, deep mentorship, and access to a strong network of advisors, investors, and partners. Our downtown New Haven space is a workplace and a hub for innovation—part office, part workshop, part event space, part community.
THE ROLE: This is not a typical “operations manager” role. You will be the person who enables ClimateHaven to run smoothly, reliably, and professionally every single day. That means owning a wide range of responsibilities across systems, people, and physical space. Some of your work will be strategic and technical (building systems, managing expenses to a budget, improving processes). Some will be highly practical (setting up rooms, stocking supplies, fixing things, running errands).
We are looking for someone who takes pride in being the person others can count on—the one who notices what needs to be done and gets it done without being asked. You will:
- Manage day-to-day operations of the space (facilities, logistics, vendor coordination) • Build and maintain internal systems (tech-based tools, workflows, light automation) • Manage a budget, track expenses, and maintain clean financial data (Excel proficiency expected, and enthusiasm to use/learn new tools, such as QuickBooks, Ramp, Airtable)
- Support programs and events (setup, breakdown, coordination)
- Ensure an exceptional experience for startups, members, and visitors
- Troubleshoot problems quickly and calmly—whether technical, logistical, or human • Continuously identify and implement improvements.
This role reports to the Managing Director—Incubation.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:
- The space runs seamlessly—clean, stocked, organized, and welcoming
- Events and programs happen without friction
- Systems are clear, efficient, and improving over time
- Team members and founders trust you completely to “handle it”
- Small problems never become big ones.
THE RIGHT PERSON: You are deeply reliable. If you say you’ll do something, it gets done—fully and well. You are equally comfortable:
- Working in Excel or lightweight code/automation tools
- Managing data and tracking details
- Managing event logistics or other small projects
- Moving tables, doing dishes, restocking supplies, or picking up food for an event. You see all of this work as important. You see it as what it takes to make something excellent.
Core traits:
- Ownership mentality: You take responsibility beyond your job description
- Follow-through: You close loops and don’t drop balls
- Attention to detail: You notice what others miss
- Service orientation: You enjoy making things work well for others
- Calm under pressure: You handle unexpected issues without drama
- Easy to work with: Clear communicator, low ego, high trust.
Key skills:
- Strong proficiency in Excel and/or Airtable
- Comfort with technology tools; ability to learn new systems quickly
- Basic coding or automation ability (e.g., scripting, no-code tools, APIs) strongly preferred
- Experience with operations, project coordination, or facilities management
- Strong written and verbal communication.
Physical / practical requirements:
- Willingness and ability to lift/move furniture and equipment
- Willingness to handle hands-on tasks daily (cleaning, organizing, restocking, errands).
WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT: You will have real ownership and visibility into how an organization operates end-to-end. You’ll work closely with founders, staff, and partners, and you’ll be essential to the success of the startups we support.
This role is ideal for someone early in their career who wants to:
- Learn how a high-functioning organization runs
- Build operational, technical, and leadership skills quickly
- Be indispensable.
THE BENEFITS: ClimateHaven strives to create an environment where its team members enjoy the hard work. Beyond a positive environment, we offer:
- Competitive salary annual incentive bonus,
- 401k program with a company match up to 4% of your eligible salary,
- Paid time off (PTO) company holidays, and
- Insurance benefits, including many employer-paid options from which to choose.
