PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Developmental Services, within a regional Supported Living Program/Individual Supports this class is accountable for implementing programs, providing care, guidance, training and supervision of individuals living in the community.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
One (1) year of experience in direct residential support services to individuals with an intellectual disability and other related conditions at the level of a Developmental Services Worker 1 (or equivalent experience in a human service field).
Preferred Qualifications

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and restrain individuals; may have exposure to communicable/infectious diseases and to risk of injury from assaultive/abusive individuals; may be exposed to disagreeable conditions.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Developmental Services, within a regional Supported Living Program/Individual Supports this class is accountable for implementing programs, providing care, guidance, training and supervision of individuals living in the community.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Implements programs and monitors an assigned caseload of individuals living in a community setting;
- Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team and participates in service delivery plan process for individuals;
- Provides guidance and support for individuals to develop independent living skills;
- Participates in and assists individuals with activities of daily living;
- Assists individuals in accessing goods, services and supports required for independent living without 24 hour supports;
- Reinforces appropriate individual behavior through modification techniques;
- Responsible for individuals health and safety;
- Observes and reports individual behavior;
- Serves as advocate for government subsidies and redetermination hearings;
- Transports individuals;
- Acts as liaison to individuals and their families or various community agencies or organizations;
- Provides concise and accurate reports and documentation;
- May make recommendations on policies or standards;
- May administer and track medications with appropriate certification;
- May administer first aid in emergency situations;
- May schedule and attend appointments with individuals;
- May maintain individuals financial records;
- May restrain individuals;
- Performs related duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities who live independently, or at home with families.
- Experience working with children and adults who present with medical complexities and behavioral challenges.
- Experience conducting home visits in response to AID (formerly OPA), Immediate Protective Services, for individuals not known to the Department.
- Experience communicating with parents and caregivers.
- Experience working with teams and clinicians, as well as with Case Managers.
- Experience in researching and setting up community resources for individuals with disabilities.
- Experience assisting individuals to develop life skills and provide families with training to assist with residential life skills.
- Experience with Medicaid enrollment requirements.
- Experience developing plans to prioritize work.
- Experience in Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and DDS e-camris.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator license.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to be certified in medicine administration.
- Incumbents in this class may need to possess and maintain a public service endorsement.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
- Incumbents in this class must possess physical and emotional health for efficient performance of duties.
- A physical examination may be required.
