Job Description
Position Summary
Under limited supervision, independently coordinates and performs a variety of managerial and operational support duties as delegated by the HIM Operations Manager. Utilizes considerable judgment in interpreting departmental policies and procedures to resolve routine to complex inquiries or problems. This position reports directly to the HIM Operations Manager.
Responsibilities
Job Duties
Management of Staff
HIM Operations Assistant Manager supervises HIM Data Integrity and Document Processing staff in order to effectively manage staff performance to include goal setting, performance evaluation, competency assessment, developmental feedback, and coordinate employee schedules for adequate coverage.
Manage and Administer Policies and Procedures
- Effectively manage and administer hospital departmental policies and procedures.
- Work with HIM Operations Manager to make and implement decisions compatible with organizational and departmental goals.
Monitor Operations
Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Regulatory Compliance
Work with HIM Operations Manager to ensure that job performance by HIM staff is in compliance with Joint Commission, Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA and Federal and State standards and regulations.
Monitoring and Reporting
Works with HIM Operations Manager to monitor production and report statistical data to demonstrate productivity and accuracy of HIM operations on a regular basis.

Supervisory Duties (if applicable)
The HIM Operations Assistant Manager will work with the HIM Operations Manager to manage direct responsibility for the document processing and data integrity staff. The staff includes approximately 8-10 employed FTEs plus supervision of other temporary or supplemental staff. Other supervisory related duties are mentioned above.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Required
Minimum of 3 years of experience in Health Information Management; previous supervisory and / or Bachelor's degree experience preferred.
License and / or Certification
Required : N / A
Preferred : RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) certification preferred.
