The Director of Manufacturing Programs is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the company's outsourced manufacturing processes. This includes managing relationships with external manufacturing partners to ensure efficient production of high-quality products, recommending production process optimization, and ensuring manufacturers meet Connected Development quality standards. The Director of Manufacturing Programs will play a critical role in driving continuous improvement initiatives and implementing best practices to enhance productivity and efficiency in collaboration with outsourcing partners.
Connected Development is a specialist in the electronic component distribution and design engineering services industries. The ideal candidate will reside in Auburn Hills, MI.; however, for the right candidate this role can be remote.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Provide strategic direction and leadership to the manufacturing team.
Develop and implement manufacturing strategies aligned with company goals and objectives.
Lead and inspire a cross-functional, productive team by hiring, training and leading qualified people, providing effective training/development, ongoing performance management rewarding higher levels of performance and utilizing effective communication and motivational techniques.
Oversee the full outsourced manufacturing lifecycle, including auditing, performance monitoring, and tracking to ensure manufacturing partners maintain efficient production practices. Ensure adherence to quality standards by monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and proposing corrective actions as needed.
Develop and oversee coordination of production schedules based on customer forecasts to ensure timely delivery of products to meet customer demands.
Collaborate with supply chain and procurement teams to ensure timely availability of raw materials and components to outsourcing partners.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives, such as audits and assessments, with outsourcing partners to enhance manufacturing efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality. Source multiple potential contract manufacturers to create leverage in negotiations.
Collaborate with the finance team to prepare financial forecasts and reports related to manufacturing operations.
Work closely with other departments, including engineering, sales, and marketing, to ensure alignment of manufacturing activities with overall business objectives.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing regular updates on manufacturing performance, challenges, and opportunities.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field. Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in manufacturing management, with at least five (5) years in a leadership role. Proven track record of successfully managing outsourced manufacturing operations and leading teams in a fast-paced environment. Twenty percent (20%) travel may be required to visit manufacturing partners, suppliers, or customers.
SKILLS & CERTIFICATIONS
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, process optimization, and quality control.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
- Proficiency in manufacturing software and systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle complex situations effectively.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Six Sigma Blackbelt Certification a plus.
