Payroll & Accounting Specialist
Location: Odessa, TX
Compensation: $60,000–$75,000 DOE

About the Opportunity
A well-established industrial services company is seeking a Payroll & Accounting Specialist to join its growing accounting team in Odessa. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys balancing payroll responsibilities with day-to-day accounting functions while working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Reporting directly to the Controller, this position plays a key role in ensuring accurate payroll processing, maintaining financial records, and supporting the company's accounting operations.
Responsibilities
- Process weekly payroll accurately and on time
- Maintain payroll records, deductions, garnishments, benefits, and tax withholdings
- Prepare payroll tax deposits and quarterly payroll tax filings
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Perform bank and account reconciliations
- Prepare journal entries and support month-end close activities
- Review job costing and assist with financial reporting
- Maintain employee payroll and HR records while ensuring confidentiality
- Respond to employee payroll questions and resolve discrepancies
- Support audits and other accounting projects as needed
Qualifications
- 3 years of payroll experience
- Accounting experience including AP, AR, reconciliations, and journal entries
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, taxes, and compliance requirements
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Experience with payroll or accounting ERP software
- Experience with Vista/Viewpoint software is highly preferred but not required
- Construction, industrial, manufacturing, or oil & gas industry experience is a plus
