Field Service Engineer – Industrial Automation

Full-Time | Direct Hire | Confidential Search

The Opportunity

Our client is an established and growing industrial technology organization that designs, builds, and supports highly engineered automated equipment used in advanced manufacturing environments.

Due to continued growth and expansion, they are adding to their Field Service Engineering team and looking for an engineer who wants to play an important role in the next stage of the organization’s growth.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, solving problems, working directly with sophisticated machinery, and having the freedom to make an impact in the field.

Rather than working on the same equipment every day, you’ll be exposed to different machines, technologies, customers, and technical challenges. You’ll work alongside experienced engineering and manufacturing professionals while becoming a key technical resource for customers.

As the company continues to expand, this position offers the opportunity to grow with the team, take on additional responsibility, and establish yourself as an important part of the organization’s future.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Field Service Engineer, you’ll help take advanced industrial equipment from the final stages of assembly through installation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer acceptance.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Installing, starting up, commissioning, and troubleshooting industrial machinery and automated equipment.

  • Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, controls, and software-related equipment issues.

  • Supporting machine run-offs and final equipment acceptance.

  • Working directly with customers to identify problems and develop practical solutions.

  • Providing on-site technical support during equipment installation and production startup.

  • Troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment and industrial automation systems.

  • Working with servo systems, drives, sensors, motors, and other industrial components.

  • Reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical drawings.

  • Making equipment adjustments and assisting with programming or controls changes when necessary.

  • Collaborating with Controls, Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, and Project Engineering teams.

  • Communicating field issues back to internal engineering teams and helping identify long-term solutions.

  • Providing technical guidance and equipment training to customer personnel.

  • Documenting service activities, technical issues, repairs, and recommended improvements.

  • Developing strong relationships with customers while representing the organization professionally in the field.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is technically strong, resourceful, and comfortable working independently when a machine needs to get back up and running.

Ideal candidates may come from backgrounds such as Field Service Engineering, Commissioning, Controls, Automation, Machine Tool, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or Equipment Installation.

Strong candidates will bring experience with several of the following:

  • Industrial machinery or automated manufacturing equipment

  • Machine installation, startup, or commissioning

  • PLC troubleshooting

  • Siemens and/or Allen-Bradley controls

  • Electrical troubleshooting

  • Mechanical troubleshooting

  • Servo motors, drives, and motion-control systems

  • Sensors, switches, motors, and industrial electrical components

  • Industrial communication networks

  • Reading electrical prints and mechanical drawings

  • CNC or machine-tool equipment

  • Customer-facing technical support

An engineering degree is valuable, but strong hands-on industrial experience will also be considered.

The Type of Person Who Will Do Well Here

You’ll likely enjoy this position if you’re someone who:

  • Likes figuring out why a machine isn’t working and how to fix it.

  • Would rather be around equipment than spend every day behind a desk.

  • Is comfortable making decisions and troubleshooting independently.

  • Enjoys working with customers and becoming the person they trust when something needs to get done.

  • Likes learning new equipment and technologies.

  • Wants variety instead of performing the exact same task every day.

  • Takes pride in seeing a machine successfully go from installation to full production.

Why Join?

Join During a Period of Expansion
The organization is growing and investing in its technical and service capabilities. You won’t simply be replacing someone—you’ll be adding to a team that is expanding to support continued growth.

Opportunity to Grow With the Team
As the organization expands, there will be opportunities for strong performers to take on greater technical responsibility and become key members of the growing service organization.

Hands-On Engineering
You’ll work directly with sophisticated industrial equipment rather than being limited to engineering work behind a computer.

Variety
Different machines, customers, applications, and technical challenges keep the work interesting.

Technical Ownership
You’ll have the opportunity to diagnose problems, recommend solutions, and see the results of your work firsthand.

Strong Internal Support
You’ll work alongside engineering, manufacturing, project management, and service professionals who understand the equipment and can support you when needed.

Travel

This is a customer-facing field position, so candidates should be comfortable with travel based on project and customer requirements.

Travel may include customer-site installation, machine startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, service, and final equipment acceptance.

Ready for Your Next Step?

If you have a background in industrial machinery, field service, commissioning, controls, automation, or machine startup and want to join an organization that is actively expanding its team, this could be an excellent next move.

We’re looking for someone who wants more than another service position—we’re looking for someone who wants to grow with the organization and become an important part of where the team is headed next.

This is a confidential search. Additional information regarding the company, equipment, team, compensation, and growth plans will be shared with qualified candidates during the recruiting process.
