Summary The Speech Language Pathologist is a qualified, licensed professional who provides, evaluates and supervises speech therapy services to patients in the hospital, outpatient clinic or in their home as prescribed by the attending physician.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
- Evaluate all new clients in the speech, language, or auditory areas as prescribed by the referring physician.
- Interpret results of diagnostic procedures to the client and/or family
- Make appropriate recommendations to the client and/or family based on diagnostic tests administered and give thorough instruction concerning diagnosis, prognosis, and anticipated outcome of the recommended therapy.
- Provide appropriate treatment of speech, language and/or auditory disorders based on needs defined by diagnostic procedures.
- Make appropriate referrals to related or supportive professionals when necessary including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Audiologist, etc.
- Completes required forms and documents in accordance with company policy and state and/or federal regulations.
- Inform client and/or family as to progress.
- Direct client and/or family in home practice as needed.
- Document daily the therapy administered and the results observed.
- Write progress reports every 30 days to the referring physician as applicable.
- Inform client of his impending dismissal before the actual date of dismissal.
- Maintains patient records in an accurate and timely manner.
- Devises special tools and treatments for the specific needs of patients.
- Maintain high ethical and professional standards of conduct and treatment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology from the American Speech and Hearing Association.
One-year clinical experience preferred.
Education and/or Experience
Master of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology
TX State Licensure as SLP.
Education and/or Experience
Minimum Education: Must have a minimum of an Associate degree from an accredited AMA Respiratory Care program. Minimum Experience- 2 years of respiratory care clinical experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must be registered or certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care
Must possess current state license from the Texas Medical Board
BLS certification required
ACLS certification required
PALS and NRP certification required
