What are the responsibilities and job description for the Industrial Controls and Robotics Technician position at ConMet Plastics?
At ConMet’s Canton, NC facility, you’ll be the go-to expert ensuring our manufacturing lines perform at their best. Picture your day starting with a quick review of line data, then moving to hands-on calibration, monitoring, analysis, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic control systems that keep production humming.
A day in this role- Zero in on failures fast — troubleshoot, analyze, and repair electrical equipment breakdowns to restore flow.
- Hunt the root cause — identify underlying problems and drive self-initiated improvements that lift reliability and shorten cycle times.
- Read the map — interpret electrical schematics to guide safe, accurate diagnostics.
- Work across components — service and repair photoelectric sensors and proximity switches, variable frequency drives (VFDs), PLCs, motors and motor controllers, and servo motion controllers.
- Guide the robots — program and troubleshoot FANUC robots and make minor touch-ups to robotic routines as needed.
- Partner for speed — collaborate with equipment and parts vendors to troubleshoot complex issues and optimize system performance.
- High school diploma plus 2 years of college or trade school.
- At least 4 years of directly related experience with an emphasis on equipment maintenance and repair.
- Working knowledge of control systems typically gained through about six (6) years in installing, inspecting, testing, and repairing pneumatic, electrical, and electronic control systems — or an equivalent mix of skills, experience, and education.
