High-Pressure Die Casting Machine Technician

What your shift looks like

You arrive at our Clackamas, OR facility—right off I-205, an easy commute from Sandy, Estacada, Clackamas, or Milwaukie—ready to keep aluminum flowing. In this technician role, you operate high-pressure aluminum die casting equipment to manufacture precision parts for the automotive and on-highway truck industries.

Across your shift, you’ll use an overhead crane to position die sections, secure them, and dial in the ram stroke. You’ll complete safety checks, connect cooling water, and preheat dies with electric heaters. With valves and dials, you’ll fine-tune water flow and machine speed based on part geometry and metal type/temperature. You’ll also configure air and spray systems to clear die surfaces and apply lubricant to the cavity and plunger, set the automatic ladle to feed molten metal, and keep the furnace metal level and temperature on-spec. Throughout, you’ll monitor process parameters, measure against targets, and make adjustments to maintain a consistent, compliant process.

Compensation and schedule

• Starting wage: $23.44/hour for the first 90 days; then $24.01/hour.
• 40-hour work week, Monday–Friday.
• Swing shift: 3:00 PM–11:30 PM, $1.25/hour premium.
• Graveyard shift: 11:00 PM–7:30 AM, $2.00/hour premium.

What you’ll master

• Operating high-pressure aluminum die casting machinery to produce quality parts.
• Using a crane to load and align die sections; bolting and securing components.
• Adjusting ram stroke and other machine settings for each production run.
• Performing equipment safety checks and addressing hazards promptly.
• Connecting cooling circuits and preheating dies with electric heaters.
• Regulating water flow and machine speed using valves and dials to match part design and molten metal properties.
• Tuning air and spray systems to clear fragments and lubricate die cavities and plungers.
• Setting automatic ladling systems to deliver molten metal accurately.
• Maintaining correct metal level and temperature in the holding furnace for the entire shift.
• Reading, tracking, and adjusting process parameters to ensure consistency and compliance.
