Picture your day starting on the shop floor, preparing large plastic injection molds that keep the Class 8 heavy truck industry rolling. On our Day shift, you’ll be the go-to expert ensuring our tooling is precise, reliable, and production-ready. If you take pride in thousandths-of-an-inch accuracy and enjoy working hands-on with mills, lathes, and surface grinders, this role is for you.
What a Typical Day Looks Like- Review work orders and job specs to plan machine setups, material needs, and sequencing.
- Set up, operate, and maintain manual machining equipment—mills, lathes, and surface grinders—to build, modify, and repair injection molding tools and components.
- Read and interpret blueprints and CAD models, translating tolerances into exact machining steps.
- Execute precision cuts and finishes to meet exact specifications and surface quality requirements.
- Use scales, rules, calipers, micrometers, and thread/plug gauges to dial in machines and fixtures.
- Track the molding schedule, perform insert changes, and prepare tooling to meet production readiness.
- Monitor molds in operation to spot tooling issues or machine malfunctions before they escalate.
- Measure molds and parts to verify dimensional accuracy and overall machine performance.
- Conduct daily inspections of cranes and related lifting equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance on molds and tooling to maximize uptime and quality.
- High school diploma or GED.
- A one-year certificate from a college or technical school and at least three years of experience in a machine shop environment (required). An equivalent blend of education and experience may be considered.
- Proficiency with surface grinders, lathes, and mills.
- Skill using overhead cranes and a forklift.
- Ability to follow instructions, read micrometers, and interpret CAD drawings and blueprints.
