Conlon Construction Co. is seeking Superintendents to join our growing team! This role will be a traveling role supporting the remodels of big box store construction projects. After completion of each project, travel will be required to support similar work across the country.
Job Summary:
The Superintendent - Fixtures is required to travel from jobsite to jobsite throughout the United States. The Superintendent – Fixtures is responsible for the overall Management of the Construction, erection, installation, repair, or tear down of owner supplied retail fixtures, including but not limited to: partitions, stockroom fixtures, pharmacy fixtures, fitting room construction, photo lab fixtures, cash wraps, salon fixtures, cafeteria fixtures, seating, install cabinets, assemble racks, gondolas, and signage. The Superintendent – Fixtures attends Pre-construction meetings and directly oversees the correct layout of store fixtures, assembly, installation, tear down and storage. The duties in this job description are not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Construction
- Works directly with the Client, General Contractor, and Project Subcontractors to create the phasing plan.
- Attend preconstruction and weekly meetings.
- Document project through photos, daily and weekly reports.
- Provide open and honest communication both written and verbally to maintain successful client relations.
- Update prints online with Procore or comparable program.
- Assist client and subcontractors with project phasing plan and facilitate that deadlines are met.
- Meet the desired deadlines while staying within the given budget.
- Determine Fixture crew assignments on the project.
- Keep work area clean and in safe condition while complying with all state and federal safety regulations.
- Assemble and disassemble scaffolding, ladders, and bracing for employees to work from.
- Inventory existing/re-use fixtures. Gather fixture parts and transport from storage area to interior of store. Tear down and reassemble existing store fixtures.
- Maintain security for company tools and equipment on jobsite and ensure proper use, and track tool inventory.
- Help unload fixtures from delivery trucks, which may include operating a fork truck.
- Assist in the layout and assembly of each job
- Assist in proper layout of store fixtures. Verify that fixtures are being installed in the proper location and correct manner.
- Operate equipment, including forklifts, scissor lifts, telehandlers, and pallet jacks.
- Assemble and layout fixture partitions, free standing and wall mount. Finish with skin wall, peg board, wire grid or in the case of fitting rooms, doors.
- Responsible for ordering parts needed using the client's app.
- Layout and install cabinetry and hardware such as jewelry cases, cash wraps, pharmacy fixtures, optical fixtures, coffee shop fixtures, brand specific display cabinetry, offices etc.
- Assemble, layout and place free standing fixture racks, gondolas, signage, lockers, office furniture etc.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and contracts.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
Supervision of Others
- Responsible for the oversight of the fixtures crew on each job assigned.
- Mentor and train personnel as necessary on the jobsite, both hands-on and verbally.
- Responsible for the oversight of the assigned job.
Safety & Compliance
- Keep work area clean and in safe condition while complying with all state and federal safety regulations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies on the job site.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
Competencies:
- Blueprint & Plan Reading - Fixtures: Capable of reading and interpreting floor plans, layout diagrams, and written instructions.
- Construction Knowledge - Fundamentals: Possesses basic knowledge of construction processes such as framing, demolition, painting, forming, concrete, and general building materials and methods.
- Instructional and Safety Communication: Able to read and understand work orders, safety rules, and instructional documents. Communicates issues or needs clearly and documents work performed when required.
- Field Leadership & Crew Oversight: Effectively supervises, mentors, and trains crew members while ensuring productivity and adherence to project goals.
- Field Leadership: Leads by example on the job site. Maintains professionalism, promotes team cohesion, and builds trust and respect among crew and subcontractors. Ability to effectively manage and assign tasks to direct reports as needed.
- Fixture Installation: Skilled in assembling, disassembling, and reconfiguring various types of store fixtures, partitions, cabinetry, and display units.
- Fixtures Knowledge: Thorough understanding of construction practices including fixture installation, equipment operation, and layout execution.
- Problem Solving: Demonstrates the ability to assess situations, identify issues, evaluate options, and implement effective solutions to achieve successful outcomes.
- Safety and Compliance: Knowledge of and adherence to safety protocols including use of PPE, fall protection, ladder safety, and electrical precautions. Proactively mitigates safety risks in the work environment.
- Technical Reporting & Documentation: Proficient in generating daily/weekly project reports, documenting progress with photos, and updating drawings using platforms like Procore.
- Technology: Responsible for timekeeping, including, overseeing and approving weekly time entries for the crew.
- Tool & Equipment Management - Fixtures: Manages and secures company tools and equipment, ensures proper usage, and supports logistics on-site, including unloading and transporting materials.
- Tool Usage: Understands and safely operates basic hand and power tools. Demonstrates skill in assembling/disassembling structures and using equipment for a variety of construction tasks.
Qualifications/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in construction preferred.
One to Three years of fixture or cabinetry experience preferred. - A Valid Driver License is required and use of insured personal vehicle.
- CPR – Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Certified / First Aid.
Physical Requirements:
- Mobility: This Position is required to stand, walk, bend, kneel and climb for extended periods of time and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to repetitively lift and/or move up to 30 lbs., push pull up to 40 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Working Conditions: This position requires employee to work indoors and outdoors in inclement weather, including wet surfaces and high variation in temperatures. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, power tools, and heights. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is highly variable.
