Job Summary:
The Painter is responsible for scheduling daily workloads, preparing and applying paint, stain, and other finishes to various surfaces, including walls, ceilings, doors, and floors in commercial settings. The role requires knowledge of different types of paints and coatings, surface preparation techniques, and proper safety measures to ensure a professional, high-quality finish. The duties in this job description are not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Project Management
- Work independently or as part of a team to complete painting projects on time and within budget.
- Follow instructions from project managers or supervisors and communicate any concerns or issues that may arise.
- Read blueprints and examine surfaces to determine the necessary work.
Surface Preparation
- Prepare surfaces by sanding, scraping, patching, and priming imperfections in surfaces to ensure a smooth Finish.
- Build scaffolding and cover fixtures as needed.
- Clean, sand, and prime surfaces before applying paint or finishes.
- Remove old paint, wallpaper, or other coatings as needed.
Painting and Coating
- Apply paints, varnishes, stains, or other finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
- Select and mix colors, stains, and finishes based on client specifications.
- Work with a variety of commercial-grade paints, including latex, oil-based, epoxy, and specialty coatings.
Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain and clean painting tools and equipment regularly.
- Ensure the proper operation of spray guns, airless sprayers, and other machinery.
Quality Control
- Ensure all painted surfaces are even, smooth, and meet the quality standards set by the company or client.
- Inspect completed work for any flaws or defects and make necessary touch-ups or corrections.
Safety & Compliance
- Keep work area clean and in safe condition while complying with all Conlon, client, all state and federal safety regulations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies on the job site.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
- Assists with the completion of regular inspections which may include tools, ladders, scaffolding, the daily JHA (Job Hazard Analysis), and others as assigned.
Supervision of Others
- Painter may have a Carpenter and/or Laborer working alongside them, this may include mentoring, monitoring work quality and production levels, and assigning tasks as needed.
Qualifications/Experience:
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED); and three to five years related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in commercial construction preferred.
- A Valid Driver License is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Mobility: Laborers are required to stand, walk, bend, kneel and climb for extended periods of time and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to repetitively lift and/or move up to 50 lbs., push pull up to 75 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs.
- Working Conditions: This position requires employees to work indoors and outdoors in inclement weather, including wet surfaces and high variation in temperatures. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, power tools, and heights. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is highly variable.
