Job Description
A private household is looking for a pet sitter for personal pets and foster kittens/moms. Shifts are available evenings, weekends, and holidays. Sign up for the shift you want. Occasional weekday AM shifts may also be available. Length of shifts depends on the number of foster kittens and transportation needed; it may range from 1.5 hours – 4.5 hours. This is a part time position and a great job for someone who loves to be around animals.
Pet sitters are responsible for providing general care for cats and kittens, as well as administering medication (as needed) and transportation to/from vet offices and adoption centers. Detailed job responsibilities are listed below.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clean cat rooms, including:
- Sift, wipe down, and refill litter boxes
- Sweep and mop floor
- Clean up any pet messes
- Vacuum cat trees, as needed
- Wipe down walls, as needed
- Clean or launder mats, sheets, pee pads, as necessary
- Feed and provide water, per the needs of cats in each room
- Give medications to cat/kittens per explicit instructions from owner or vet
- Report any cat/kitten injuries or illnesses to pet owner or manager as soon as possible
- Load and empty dishwasher (pet and human dishes)
- Do pet laundry, as needed
- Fill wild bird feed on back deck, weekend shifts only
- Respect clients’ homes and personal property
- Transport cat/kittens to/from appointments with vets or animal shelter (foster animal specific) – mileage is reimbursed
- Check pet sitting schedule to sign up for shifts and inform Household Manager about any upcoming absences.
- Provide additional customer service as requested by clients, which may include picking up mail, watering plants, refilling humidifier, taking garbage cans out and bringing them back from the curb, etc.
REPORTS TO:
The Pet Sitter reports directly to the Household Manager but will also take instructions from owners.
JOB SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 18 years old
- At least one year previous animal experience, ideally in a shelter setting
- Have reliable vehicle and driver’s license
- Able to pass a criminal background check and drug test
- Dependable, reliable, and mature
- Good communicator; able to work within a team
- Flexible (willing to fill in shifts occasionally, as needed)
