Overview
The Land Survey CAD Drafter supports surveyors, engineers, and project managers by transforming field data and survey notes into accurate technical drawings. This role focuses on producing precise survey plats, topographic maps, construction staking exhibits, boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, and other land development documents using CAD software.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, update, and maintain survey drawings, plats, and maps using CAD software (Carlson Survey).
- Interpret field survey data, notes, and sketches collected by survey crews.
- Draft boundary, topographic, route, easement, and construction staking drawings according to company standards and client requirements.
- Process raw survey data (point files, field books, digital files) and ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Work closely with licensed surveyors to resolve discrepancies and clarify project details.
- Organize drawing files, maintain version control, and ensure compliance with CAD standards.
- Prepare deliverables such as ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, subdivision plats, and legal description exhibits.
- Assist in quality control checks to verify accuracy of coordinates, linework, labels, and symbology.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and external clients as needed.
- Follow applicable state and local regulations related to surveying (Texas standards).
Qualifications
- 1–5 years of experience drafting survey drawings in a professional environment (or equivalent training).
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D (preferred) or similar CAD platforms.
- Strong understanding of land surveying fundamentals, including coordinate geometry (COGO), legal descriptions, and field data collection practices.
- Ability to read and interpret survey field notes, plats, deeds, and engineering plans.
- Familiarity with local and state surveying standards (e.g., Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying rules).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience preparing ALTA/NSPS surveys.
- Knowledge of GIS systems or point-cloud processing.
- Experience with Trimble Business Center (TBC), Carlson Survey.
- Understanding of land development and civil engineering workflows.
