Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform daily pre-trip inspections on vehicle, parts, and accessories.
- Review shipping papers and verify load type, hazards, and securement methods.
- Operate vehicles in compliance with DOT, State Vehicle Code, and Title 13 regulations.
- Pick up and deliver freight as assigned.
- Load, unload, and move freight manually or with mechanical lifting equipment.
- Hook and unhook trailers as needed.
- Collect COD freight charges and return as instructed.
- Match, count, and verify freight with billing documents; note exceptions in writing.
- Secure loads with tarps, chains, straps, or webbing.
- Maintain a professional appearance and customer-focused attitude.
- Perform general clean-up of truck and trailer interiors.
- Report all accidents, injuries, or equipment issues immediately.
- Maintain accurate Driver’s Record of Duty Status per DOT regulations.
- Safely operate pallet jacks, forklifts, lift gates, and related equipment.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Safe, legal operation of commercial vehicles.
- Timely and secure transport of freight.
- Proper loading/unloading to minimize risk of damage or injury.
- Accurate documentation for freight and vehicle operations.
- Professional representation of Conklin Metal and the trucking industry.
The Driver Must Be Able To
- Sit and remain alert while driving for up to 10 hours.
- Shift manual transmission and operate foot pedals.
- Frequently enter/exit vehicle cab (36–66 inches off the ground), using steps and handholds.
- Perform bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching, and balancing as needed.
- Push freight up to 75 lbs frequently and up to 250 lbs occasionally (with or without mechanical aid).
- Lift and carry freight 1–50 lbs frequently and 51–122 lbs occasionally.
- Reach at, above, and below waist/shoulder levels.
- Load/unload full trailers up to 50,000 lbs, including moving containers, drums, cylinders, and cartons.
- Install and remove tire chains during inclement weather.
- Hook/unhook vehicle combinations; lower/raise landing gear; operate fifth-wheel release; attach/release safety chains; open/close cargo doors; climb, fuel, and check engine fluids.
