We are seeking a talented BI/Data Solutions Engineer to join our team and play a pivotal role in building and maintaining our enterprise data infrastructure. This is a hands-on technical role that will directly support the credit union’s business intelligence (BI) and enterprise data strategy, ensuring data is transformed into trusted, actionable insights for stakeholders across the organization.

As the BI/Data Solutions Engineer, you will design and optimize scalable data pipelines, enhance data models, and deliver reliable reporting and analytics. You will also play a key role in strategic initiatives, including our core system conversion and the implementation of enterprise knowledge management solutions.

Where you will have an impact:

Data Architecture & Integration:

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes to support enterprise reporting and analytics needs.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the enterprise data warehouse (EDW) strategy, including data modeling, performance tuning, and source system integration.
  • Develop and maintain data flow documentation, metadata, and dictionaries to promote data literacy and governance.
  • Build integrations and pipelines that automatically apply and preserve sensitivity labels and data classifications throughout the data lifecycle to ensure enforcement of Microsoft Purview DLP and Information Protection policies.
  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to identify data sources, define integration requirements, and implement reliable data flows.
  • Evaluate and recommend modern data tools, platforms, and frameworks to optimize data processing and availability.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data flows and warehouse environments to ensure data quality, integrity, and availability.

Business Intelligence Support:

  • Partner with BI Analysts and business stakeholders to ensure reliable, accurate, and timely data availability for dashboards, KPIs, and ad hoc analysis.
  • Enable self-service BI by delivering curated datasets, optimizing performance, and implementing semantic layers or shared data models.
  • Ensure BI datasets and reports incorporate Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels so sensitive information is protected in both self-service and shared analytics environments.
  • Assist in migrating legacy reports to modern BI platforms (e.g., Power BI) and in improving the overall BI ecosystem.

Governance, Risk, and Compliance Support:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Information Security to define and maintain documentation of enterprise data types and information assets.
  • Identify and assess business data risks, classify data in alignment with credit union policies, and develop tagging schemas that support Microsoft Purview DLP and Information Protection enforcement.
  • Contribute to the creation of data architecture maps that support business continuity planning (BCP), risk assessments, and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Align data management practices with FFIEC and NCUA expectations, ensuring traceability, classification, and secure handling of sensitive data.

Analyze Business Requirements & Strategic Projects:

  • Provide technical support and data expertise for the core system conversion project, including mapping legacy data, validating data flows, and ensuring continuity in reporting.
  • Embed security-by-design principles into new data initiatives to ensure compatibility with Microsoft Purview compliance capabilities from inception.
  • Contribute to enterprise transformation efforts by building and maintaining the data foundations that drive innovation and operational excellence.

Innovation and Improvement:

  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for enhancing business processes and employee experiences leveraging data solutions
  • Proactively seek improvements in data classification accuracy, risk detection, and automated enforcement of data protection policies.

What You Bring to the Table:

Qualifications and Skills required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 years of experience in data engineering, BI development, or analytics engineering.
  • Preferred experience working in the credit union or financial service industry.
  • Preferred experience working with Jack Henry and Microsoft platforms.
  • Experience with enterprise BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker) and working with analysts or data consumers.
  • Proficiency with data warehouse platforms and architectures (e.g., SQL Server, Azure Synapse, Snowflake, etc.).
  • Experience with enterprise BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker) and working with analysts or data consumers.
  • Experience implementing or supporting Microsoft Purview DLP, Information Protection, or Azure Rights Management solutions is a plus.
  • Experience working in an Agile or cross-functional project environment.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary.
  • Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management.
  • Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
  • Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
