Part-time Coach

Congressional School seeks a part-time Coach for the 2025-2026 academic year. The Coach is responsible for creating an environment that fosters and promotes physical fitness and discovers and develops talents of students in physical achievement. The Coach is a member of a collaborative team and delivers a program that is student-centered and focused on developing a lifelong love of the sport/area of focus. The Coach is knowledgeable and has relevant experience in the sport.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides coaching and guidance to Middle School aged students in the sport(s) of focus
• Conducts and leads practices and games
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment
• Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and areas
• Provides individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each student
• Evaluates each student's growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports
• Communicates with parents and the the Director of Athletics on student progress
• Attends staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, in-service days and other professional and community activities, when appropriate
• Performs any other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in physical education or related field; (Assistant Coaches minimum requirements: Associates Degree or High School Diploma with a track towards an higher education degree.)
• Experience in the sport(s) they are intending on coaching
• Minimum 2 years' relevant coaching experience, strongly preferred
• Experience with coaching/teaching middle school age students
• Knowledge and ability to instruct a wide range of sport activities a plus
• Strong initiative and organizational skills
• Ability to work afternoons and early evening hours
• An ability to work in a joyful, collegial and collaborative environment
• A sense of humor, warm personality, and growth mindset
