Part-Time Custodian/Handyman (Part-Time – Approximately 35 Hours/Week)

Congregation Sons of Israel (CSI) is an active Conservative synagogue serving approximately 300 families in Briarcliff Manor, NY. We are seeking a dependable, skilled Part-Time Custodian/Handyman to support the daily operations, upkeep, and weekend programming of our building.

This position covers weekday daytime hours, Shabbat support, and Sunday religious school hours, complementing our existing custodial schedule.

Schedule (Approximately 35 hours/week)

• Monday–Friday: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
• Saturday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
• Sunday: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM

(Some flexibility required for holidays and special programs.)

Responsibilities

• Daily cleaning and upkeep during school and office hours
• Basic handyman and maintenance tasks (minor repairs, troubleshooting)
• Room setup and breakdown for classes, meetings, and programs
• Shabbat Kiddush setup, support and cleanup
• Sunday religious school classroom cleaning and support
• Monitor building conditions and report maintenance issues
• Work collaboratively with custodial staff and synagogue leadership

Qualifications

• Experience in custodial, maintenance, or handyman work
• Ability to perform physical tasks (lifting, bending, standing, moving furniture)
• Works well independently and as part of a small team
• Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
• Experience in a synagogue, school, or community center is a plus

Compensation

• $19/hour
• Approximately 35 hours per week, with additional paid hours for holidays and special events
