Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Activity Assistant to join our team in providing engaging and meaningful activities for residents in a long-term care setting. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with individuals with varying abilities, including those in memory care and those with disabilities. This role is essential in enhancing the quality of life for our residents through creative programming and supportive interaction. Schedule will be 11:30a -7p Mon-Fri with weekend availability required.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and implement recreational and therapeutic activities tailored to the interests and needs of residents.
- Facilitate group activities that promote social interaction, cognitive stimulation, and physical engagement.
- Assist residents in participating in activities, ensuring their comfort and safety at all times.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff to encourage participation and gather feedback on activities.
- Document participation levels and resident responses to activities for ongoing assessment of program effectiveness.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to address any specific needs related to dementia care or aging issues counseling.
- Support residents with personal care as needed during activities, ensuring dignity and respect.
Skills
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with residents, families, and team members.
- Experience in caregiving or working within a nursing home or long-term care environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of memory care practices and dementia care techniques.
- Ability to plan and execute events that cater to diverse interests and abilities.
- Familiarity with aging issues counseling to provide appropriate support to residents.
- Compassionate approach when assisting individuals with disabilities or special needs.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple activities simultaneously while maintaining a positive atmosphere.
Physical Activity Requirements
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle including vans
- No hearing or mobility impairments
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
- Ability to stoop, bend, twist, reach about shoulder level, and lift up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to carry out verbal instructions and converse with residents, co-workers and visitors.
- Ability to push/pull wheelchairs, geriatric chairs and other equipment.
