Job Description: Director of Engagement

Position: Part-Time (Approximately 30 hours per week)

Reports To: Executive Director

Location: Congregation Ahavath Beth Israel (CABI), Boise, ID

 

Are you passionate about building Jewish community? Do you love bringing joy and connection to a diverse group of like-minded individuals? As our Director of Engagement, you will play a pivotal role in weaving the social and communal fabric of CABI. This position focuses on building meaningful relationships, inspiring volunteerism, and managing effective internal and external communications. The ideal candidate will be a people-centric catalyst, dedicated to drawing members deeper into congregational life while enthusiastically welcoming prospective members into the CABI family.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Relationship Building & Outreach

  • Targeted Outreach: Design and implement creative outreach strategies aimed both at attracting prospective members and re-engaging existing members.
  • Deepening Connection: Focus on getting to know members individually and in groups, understanding their unique interests, and drawing them deeper into meaningful participation.

2. Marketing & Communications

  • Content Creation: Draft, design, and distribute key congregational communications, including weekly e-newsletters, social media postings, and promotional fliers.
  • Storytelling: Maintain an active, inviting, and consistent organizational voice across all digital and print platforms to elevate CABI's brand and appeal.

3. Volunteer Mobilization & Support

  • Talent Management: Actively help recruit, train, coordinate, and motivate volunteers for various task forces, projects, and community initiatives.
  • Leadership Empowerment: Cultivate a supportive environment that inspires congregants to step into leadership and other volunteer roles.

4. Programmatic Support

  • Resource Coordination: Collaborate directly with program leaders—including congregational volunteers and the Rabbi—to help them obtain the necessary resources, logistics, and administrative assistance to execute successful events.

 

Key Competencies

  • Excellent Communication Skills: Outstanding written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to speak compellingly across different media.
  • Emotional & Social Intelligence: Exceptional empathy, active listening skills, and an innate ability to build trust and connect authentically with individuals of all backgrounds.
  • Volunteer Coordination: Proven capability to organize, inspire, track, and retain a diverse base of volunteers.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong familiarity and comfort utilizing email communication marketing tools, mainstream social media platforms, and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) database systems.
  • Jewish Knowledge: Familiarity with Jewish customs, holidays, and observances, and experience within a synagogue or Jewish not-for-profit environment is preferred.

 

Hours & Compensation

This is a part-time (approximately 30 hours/week) non-exempt position. A flexible schedule is expected, with a need to be present for significant evening and weekend programs and services, as well as meetings with members and colleagues. Salary commensurate with experience, $25 - $28 per hour. Employment includes complimentary membership in the congregation and discounted enrollment in our Jewish Community School for the family.
