Role Purpose:
The Utilities Lead is responsible for monitoring the overall processes at the Central Plant to ensure their team is meeting the required process specifications while having safety as a priority. The Utilities Lead is a valued resource for the Plant Utilities Technicians on their shift to assist in troubleshooting and training. This role is responsible of the inventory of materials and supplies needed for operating and maintaining all systems in the Central Plant, as well as making process adjustments to chemical systems at the Treatment Plant.
Accountabilities & Impact:
Safety:
- Lead by example and adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure a safe working environment. Ensure team members are accountable to same.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Contribute to the development of safety initiatives to prevent accidents and injuries.
Quality Assurance:
- Lead by example and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and quality assurance procedures to maintain product integrity and meet customer expectations.
Central Plant Operations:
- Ensure continuous operation of the Central Plant (Utility equipment, boilers, chillers, RO systems, well, CO2 recovery, well injection, cooling towers) through active leadership of the Utilities team, monitoring and troubleshooting. Report out responsibilities for Process Water Treatment Plant.
- Assist in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Central Plant operations to ensure consistency and efficiency.
- Complete daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual tasks using Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to ensure sustained and repeatable quality and overall performance results.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements.
Team Leadership:
- Lead and motivate a team of technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and job satisfaction.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively to ensure smooth operation of Central Plant.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the Utilities team.
- Escalate measures taken for safety, equipment and/or personnel issues for immediate resolution.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and quality improvement within the brewing department.
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing projects, to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Brewing, Maintenance, Quality, and Supply Chain, to achieve production goals and resolve issues.
- Effectively communicate job knowledge and process changes to the Utilities team and management through various forms of daily communication (shift handover meeting, daily brewing meetings, email, action logs, work orders, etc.).
Skill & Experiences Needed:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Boiler operator’s certification, preferred. ADEQ Grade 2 WWT certification, preferred.
- 2 years of experience in leadership roles in plant manufacturing/commercial utilities and working on chillers/boilers, or an equivalent.
- Experience using a CMMS system for scheduling and planning maintenance activities.
- Experience in the use of toxic and hazardous chemicals, therefore, the lead must have the technical expertise, judgment, skills, and training in safe procedures for handling and operating these substances.
- Must be skilled with the proper use of power and hand tools, forklift experience is helpful.
- Must be skilled in mathematics, mechanics, chemistry.
- Must have a basic knowledge of microbiology, electrical systems, controls systems, and industrial maintenance.
- Must be proficient in the use of computer skills such as MS office, Teams, and email.

Working conditions:
- Fast-paced and constantly changing work environment
- Ability to work outdoors, exposed to the outside conditions.
- Subject to extreme temperatures.
- Shift work including days, evenings, overnight shifts, and up to 12 hrs.
- Overtime including weekends and holidays as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand/move 8-12 hours per day.
- Ability to ascend/descend stairs/ladders throughout shift.
- Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including (but not limited to) bump cap, safety steel toe shoes, safety glasses, dust masks or PAPRs.
- Must adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
