The General Manager will oversee laboratory and production activities to ensure efficient execution of R&D-scale and pilot-scale manufacturing. The individual will be responsible for managing scientific personnel and ensuring alignment of formulation, production, and analytical operations with organizational objectives. This position requires strong upstream and downstream processing knowledge, combined with the leadership skills necessary to integrate into an established team culture without disrupting existing dynamics.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Management
- Direct day-to-day laboratory and manufacturing operations (R&D -> pilot -> batch production)
- Coordinate process transfer between formulation, analytical, and manufacturing functions.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, batch records, and QA/QC documentation consistent with industry standards.
- Monitor inventory, raw materials, consumables, and instrument readiness to ensure uninterrupted operations.
2. Technical Leadership
- Supervise formulation, protein handling, and biomaterial processing workflows.
- Oversee downstream purification and concentration processes, including chromatography, protein precipitation, and TFF.
- Support analytical characterization of complex mixtures in collaboration with senior formulators and analysts.
- Participate in scale-up and technology transfer initiatives.
3. People and Culture Integration
- Provide structured leadership to existing personnel.
- Foster a respectful, collaborative, and psychologically safe environment.
- Integrate into established workflows without organizational friction.
- Communicate cross-functionally with diplomacy and precision.
4. Compliance and Quality
- Support regulatory readiness for cosmetics and biologics-adjacent products.
- Uphold ISO/cGMP-aligned practices when feasible.
- Assist in risk assessments, CAPAs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
- 5–7 years of laboratory and pilot manufacturing experience in cosmetics and/or bioprocessing.
- Proficiency in protein purification, chromatography, TFF, or biomolecule manufacturing.
- Experience with SOPs, batch records, and QC documentation.
- Familiarity with scale-up operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with collagen, peptides, or protein biomaterials.
- Experience in proteomics or analytical characterization.
- Exposure to MoCRA, ISO 13485, or cGMP environments.
- Experience managing technical personnel.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
