Overview
We’re a growing consumer products company that designs, sources, and sells products through national retail and e-commerce channels. We’re hiring an in-house Corporate & IP Counsel – a flexible, part-time role (about 25 hours per week) – to protect our brands and products, own contract review and negotiation, and be the practical legal partner our teams rely on. It’s a great fit for an experienced attorney who wants meaningful, hands-on work without a full-time commitment, with broad responsibility and a direct line to leadership. What you’ll do
Intellectual property
- Manage and grow our trademark portfolio – filings, renewals, monitoring, and enforcement
- Coordinate patent strategy and filings with outside patent counsel; help protect product designs and innovations
- Lead brand protection and anti-counterfeiting across marketplaces and retail
- Advise product and marketing teams on IP clearance, packaging, and advertising claims
Contracts & commercial
- Draft, review, and negotiate supplier, manufacturing, vendor, distribution, customer/retailer, NDA, and licensing agreements
- Build practical contract templates and a smooth review process
- Partner with sales, sourcing, and operations on everyday commercial terms and risk
General corporate & compliance
- Provide practical, business-minded legal guidance across the company
- Advise on regulatory and compliance matters (product safety/labeling, advertising, consumer protection, privacy)
- Support corporate governance, employment/HR legal questions, and policy updates
- Manage disputes and outside counsel, and help control legal spend
What we’re looking for
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar
- Admitted in Illinois, or eligible to register as in-house counsel in Illinois
- Approximately 4–8 years of relevant experience (law firm and/or in-house)
- Strong trademark/IP background and solid commercial contracts experience
- Consumer products, manufacturing, or retail industry experience a plus
- USPTO patent bar registration is a plus, but not required
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and business-partnering skills, with sound, practical judgment
- Able to work part-time (~25 hours/week), on-site at our North-Central Illinois office, with some scheduling flexibility
