What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Confidential?
Controller
Location: Conover, NC (Hybrid – 2 Days Onsite Per Week)
Industry: Manufacturing / Furniture / Import & Distribution
Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
About the Opportunity
We are partnering with an established, privately held, $40 million manufacturing company seeking a hands-on Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations.
This opportunity is ideal for a finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and enjoys being directly involved in the day-to-day accounting function.
We're looking for someone who is proactive, adaptable, and comfortable rolling up their sleeves to get things done. This is not a traditional corporate finance leadership role. The right individual will be equally comfortable managing the company's financial performance and handling the details of daily accounting operations.
Candidates may reside outside the Conover area but must be available to work onsite at least two days per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily accounting operations, including general ledger, reconciliations, month-end and year-end closing.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Manage accounting activities associated with manufacturing, inventory, purchasing, and distribution.
- Understand and account for international imports, freight costs, duties, and tariffs.
- Monitor operational costs, profitability, and financial performance.
- Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax professionals.
- Maintain internal controls and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
- Partner directly with company leadership on financial and operational decisions.
Qualifications
- Strong accounting background within manufacturing, furniture, distribution, import/export, or freight forwarding.
- Experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar position.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, general ledger accounting, and P&L management.
- Experience with inventory accounting, cost accounting, and manufacturing operations preferred.
- Exposure to international freight, imports, customs duties, or tariffs highly desirable.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) preferred.
- Ability to independently manage accounting responsibilities with minimal oversight.
- Strong Excel skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to balance strategic financial responsibilities with hands-on accounting work.
What We're Looking For
- Hands-On: Enjoys doing the work, not just managing it.
- Driven: Takes ownership and follows through.
- Adaptable: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift.
- Resilient: Handles pressure and direct communication professionally.
- Resourceful: Finds solutions without relying on layers of corporate support.
- Business-Minded: Understands how accounting impacts operations, profitability, and overall business performance.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- Established $40MM manufacturing business.
- Direct interaction with company leadership.
- Significant ownership of accounting and financial operations.
- Hybrid flexibility with only two required onsite days per week.
Salary : $125,000 - $150,000
