What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Financial Officer position at Confidential?
A privately held industrial company is conducting a confidential search for a Chief Financial Officer. This is a senior leadership role reporting directly to the owners, with full ownership of the finance function.
What You Will Own
- Day-to-day management of the accounting department, including direct supervision and development of a team of two to three
- Month-end close, financial reporting, and forecasting across multiple operating entities
- Cash flow management, working capital, and lender relationships
- Budgeting, margin analysis, and pricing support for operations leadership
- Tax reporting and coordination with outside tax and audit partners
- Commission calculation and reporting, along with other confidential compensation and company data
- Internal controls, policy, and financial governance
- Driving automation and AI adoption inside the finance function, from close acceleration to reporting and forecasting
- Serving as a strategic partner to ownership on growth, capital structure, and long-term planning
What We Are Looking For
- 7 years of progressive finance leadership, including CFO or Controller in a lower-middle-market company
- Experience in distribution, manufacturing, or industrial services
- Hands-on NetSuite experience is required.
- Genuinely open to AI and automation as part of how finance operates. We are actively building AI-assisted reporting and analysis, and the CFO will be expected to use these tools, not resist them
- Track record managing banking relationships and asset-based or revolving credit facilities
- Willing to be hands-on. This role manages the accounting function and also does the work. You will supervise a small team and still own the close, the filings, and the reporting yourself
- Held to a high standard of discretion. This role has access to compensation, tax, and ownership-level information
- CPA or MBA preferred, not required
- Direct, candid communicator who is willing to disagree with ownership and be held to what they commit to.
