Operate the boiler room, hydrogen gas plant, nitrogen plant, soft water system, R.O. system, co-gen turbine and waste heat boiler, air system, old hydrogen plant and cooling towers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1 Carry out constant inspections of key process points and make necessary machinery and equipment adjustments to ensure correct operation of all machinery and equipment, such as the boilers, compressors, dryers, reformers, softeners, oil pumps, feed water pumps, soft water pumps, and all other related equipment.
2 Fill chemical tanks as required: to include boiler chemicals, deaerator chemical tanks, cooling tower chemical tanks. Monitor levels and chemical residual in all of the aforementioned.
3 Test water, condensate, cooling tower water. Monitor temperatures and pressures on cooling towers.
4 May be required to deviate from normal process procedure in order that investigational studies can be carried out.
5 Carry out or ensure that operating maintenance and lubrication is completed as required.
6 Ensure that information is gathered for and reported on record sheets provided.
7 During shutdowns the operator must perform special duties as assigned.
8 Work areas must be kept in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
9 Must be compliant with all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food/Feed Safety, and Quality Programs.
10 Must perform control analysis and adjust equipment accordingly to obtain proper quality in steam, hydrogen, nitrogen, air, electricity, water, and water discharged to the sewer.
11 Approach every task with safety as the first work consideration.
12 Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
13 Identify and mitigate hazards before starting work tasks.
14 Maintain situational awareness to identify and mitigate potential hazards while performing work tasks.
15 Perform any duties that may be reasonably assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
1 Must have a thorough knowledge of the operation and control of the boilers, boiler plant system including water testing, water flows, understand the function of the softeners, transfer pumps, and feed water pumps. Switch boilers on oil and gas plant on propane with limited supervision. Run the gas turbine and waste heat boiler in order to maintain proper efficiencies. Maintain all oil levels, pressures, and temperatures. Inspect the air filter system and air-cooling system to maintain proper temperatures.
2 Must also become familiar with boiler, gas plant, and co-gen controls. Be able to operate the boilers, gas plant, and co-gen including start up and shut down.
3 Must use judgment in adjusting to ensure that equipment and machinery in the boiler, gas plant, and co-gen areas are operating properly and that hydrogen, nitrogen, steam, and electricity meet specifications.
4 Operators must possess and keep up to date a State of Minnesota First Class Grade B Steam Engineer’s License or higher.
