We help get military, commercial, residential, or municipal projects started and completed using the finest aggregate materials in the high desert. We’re located near Barstow in Southern California.
Job Description:
As the Quarry Safety & Environmental Officer, your main job is to make sure that all on-site work follows local, state, and federal safety rules. You will do inspections, watch mining/excavation activities, and be part of the planning process to give input on safety. Working closely with the Plant and Quarry teams, you will have open discussions about safety concerns and work passionately to find practical solutions for continuous safety improvement. Your ultimate goal is to achieve 100% safety, actively supporting the team in creating a safe work environment.
The ideal candidate has rock plant experience, knowledge of safe operation procedures, understands quarrying practices, and is skilled in performing routine maintenance on equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Interact with Quarry leadership, staff, and outside stakeholders to address safety challenges on behalf of the Quarry.
- Comply with MSHA and OSHA safety guidelines and company policies to maintain a safe work environment.
- Conduct or assist in investigating incidents to determine the cause and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with the COO to manage unsafe situations and find safe solutions.
- Develop and deliver safety trainings and materials for a variety of topics on regulations including (but not limited to): MSHA/OSHA regulations, Mojave Air District, EPA, California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), First Aid, Hazardous Waste, etc.
- Develop and enforce the site-specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP).
- Lead morning tailgate safety meetings and stretching exercises.
- Stay updated with changes from various regulatory agencies such as MSHA, OSHA, Mojave Air District, EPA, CDFW, etc.
- Perform daily safety and health inspections and document the findings.
- Maintain site safety records, including inspection logs, near-miss reports, safety and health deficiency tracker, and daily production reports.
- Keep relevant site safety reference material readily available on the job site.
- Conduct weekly safety meetings.
Qualification & Experience
- High School Diploma
- At least 5 years’ experience in safety and environmental management within a mining/quarry setting
- Maintain annual safety training on a variety of topics including (but not limited to): MSHA and OSHA, Mojave Air District, EPA, and California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife
- Experience creating training materials for the previously mentioned regulatory agencies (see list above) as well as on topics such as First Aid, Emergency Response, Hazardous Waste, and other topics as necessary
- Creating and maintaining safety documentation and keeping accurate records
- Proven experience conducting safety audits/inspections/investigations to ensure that potential issues and any accidents are properly reviewed, documented, and corrected
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods and perform work on a computer

- Salary: $85,000 - $125,000/Year
