What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Office Investment Associate position at Confidential - Family Office?
About the Firm
We are a single-family office based in Midtown Manhattan managing long-term, patient, and flexible permanent capital. Unconstrained by traditional institutional fund lifecycles or rigid mandates, we pursue direct private equity, co-investments, and opportunistic direct private deals across a variety of sectors.
We operate with the agility and lean structure of a boutique startup backed by deep, permanent balance-sheet capital.
Position Overview
We are looking to hire our first dedicated direct investment analyst/associate to join our team in Midtown. This is a foundational hire designed to work shoulder-to-shoulder with the family office Principals.
The environment is flat, meritocratic, and highly entrepreneurial. You will not be an anonymous gear in a large deal machine; instead, you will have immediate ownership across the full deal lifecycle—from initial screening and complex underwriting to diligence execution and active portfolio monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
- Deal Evaluation & Complex Underwriting: Build and own all dynamic three-statement financial models, returns sensitivity analyses, and LBO/operating models from scratch for direct private transactions.
- Transaction Execution: Manage due diligence processes end-to-end alongside external advisors (accounting, legal, tax, commercial). Draft clear, institutional-grade investment memorandums directly for the Principals.
- Sourcing Support & Pipeline Management: Screen, triage, and evaluate proprietary opportunities brought in by the Principals; actively track deal pipeline activity across varied industries.
- Portfolio Monitoring & Strategic Initiatives: Track ongoing financial and operational metrics across existing investments, evaluate follow-on capital requests, and support portfolio management teams on bespoke strategic projects.
- Platform Building: As our first junior hire, help establish underwriting templates, tracking systems, and diligence processes that will scale as our direct investment platform grows.
Candidate Profile
- Experience:
- 2 years in an investment banking analyst program or equivalent.
- 2 years of buy-side direct investing experience (Private Equity, Growth Equity, or direct family office investing).
- Entrepreneurial Drive: High degree of self-direction, comfort navigating ambiguity, and the willingness to proactively build workflows and solutions without needing rigid management. Willingness to travel extensively as needed.
- Technical Mastery: Superior financial modeling skills and deep fluency in corporate accounting, debt structuring, and core valuation methodologies.
- Generalist Curiosity: A flexible, commercially minded perspective capable of quickly analyzing unfamiliar business models across diverse industry sectors.
- Executive Presence & Discretion: Polished written and verbal communication skills suited for direct, daily interactions with Principals, management teams, and external counterparties.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related quantitative field with a stellar academic track record.
