POSITION:               Sr. Systems Administrator

SALARY:                   $35.13 - $40.73, per hour DOE

REPORTS TO:        Systems Service Manager

LOCATION:              Information Technology Department, Nespelem, WA.  

 

Basic Functions:      This is a Non-Exempt position.  Under general direction, is responsible for analyzing, designing, installing, administering, maintaining and troubleshooting system and server systems. Participates in capacity planning, support the creation and the maintenance of system and server disaster recovery plans and monitor all system and server performance activities. Screens the system and server for attempted intrusions as well as designs and implements appropriate system and server security measures and procedures. Responsible for designing and implementing advanced cabling plant infrastructure to support system and server systems. Provides Tier II and III support for network issues that come through the customer service center. Exercises no direct supervision over staff

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Training: 

  • High School Diploma, GED with 72 months experience  OR,
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in Telecommunications, Computer Science, or Information Technology with 24 months experience and,
  • Experience in Telecommunication, Networks, Computer Science, or IT related fields, managing network projects and experience in working with teams, developing work plans.
  • Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
  • Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position:
  • Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Conviction.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of quality principles and tools, especially root cause analysis and problem solving.

  • Novice knowledge of various switches and routers for use in Private and carrier-based optical WAN and MAN networks across multiple data centers utilizing MPLS and advanced routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial enterprise-level tools and products to provide core network services including: firewalls, IPS/IDS, DNS, DHCP, web security, email security, VPN, and NAC.
  • Advanced knowledge of VOIP telephony products.
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise system monitoring and management tools such as SolarWinds Orion Suite, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of Coaxial, fiber, and copper structured cabling for core, aggregation, distribution, and access layer networks.
  • Advanced knowledge of network configuration management.
  • Knowledge of basic to moderately complex hardware and software products.
  • Knowledge of Internet Protocols & Networking understanding
  • Knowledge of computer systems scheduling and report distribution.
  • Skill in problem solving/troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of basic hardware and software products.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft back office, messaging, and core infrastructure
  • Advanced knowledge of Active-Synch messaging
  • Advanced knowledge of message and file archiving
  • Advanced knowledge of server operating systems
  • Advanced knowledge of patch management techniques
  • Advanced knowledge of X86 Windows and X86 Mac OS/X
  • Advanced knowledge of server virtualization technologies including VMWare ESX
  • Advanced knowledge of Active Directory, Open Directory, and/or LDAP
  • Advanced knowledge of Fiber Channel SAN and NAS storage fundamentals
  • Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP Networking
  • Advanced knowledge of least-privileged security model
  • Advanced knowledge of scripting techniques
  • Advanced knowledge of ITIL Release Management and Change Management
  • Advanced knowledge of requirements analysis and project management techniques
  • Skills in technical documentation creation including but not limited to SLA's, SOP's, and project plans.
  • Skills in the use of computers, MS office 2003/2007/2010, and associated software within the MS-Windows 7 and XP environment.
  • Knowledge of current organizational hardware and software capabilities.
  • Ability to learn and apply all Tribal and Division processes, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use mobile and/or PC technology, computer operating systems, network printer configuration and mobile device configuration in Windows and Mac.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Tribal staff and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Type 40 wpm and pass a standardized grammar test
  • Basic math skills  
  • Ability to learn and adapt to the ongoing changes of the organization.
  • Ability to clearly communicate goals and priorities of the organization as they relates to technical issues.
  • Ability to demonstrate a solid understanding of the current knowledge exchange and technology interface issues (including e-business aspects) between own and closely related units of the organization.
  • Ability to demonstrate a solid understanding of project management tools; plan development, metrics, cost and effort estimation, schedule development, risk analysis, monitoring of production and compliance, project progress tracking.
  • Ability to demonstrate a solid understanding of business and technical problem solving skills.
  • Ability to create technical requirements documentation. Ability to successfully launch and deliver a single IT project.
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate team meetings, project work groups, management, risk and conflict.
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule, and monitor assigned technical projects, developing and maintaining comprehensive project plans/schedules, while using the same methodology to provide organization with accurate and complete status information. Develops and implements short and long term plans, providing data for long-term capacity planning.
  • Ability to manage by establishing operational plans, including goals and objectives with measurable results, within specified timeframes.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to establish and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis on various types of system and equipment issues.
  • Ability to utilize computers, laptops, iPads, iPhones, Network Analyzers, Conversion cables.
  • Ability to be a positive influence on team building.
  • Ability to succeed as a team player in a fast-paced environment

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance.  In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances.  If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
