INTRODUCTION:
This position contributes to the Public Works Department effort to protect and preserve the Tribe’s grounds, buildings, facilities, roads and equipment. Performs grounds keeping, landscaping and maintenance duties on all tribal grounds, properties, parking lots and roads.
DUTIES:
- Perform building and grounds maintenance and repairs including plumbing, minor electrical, minor roof repairs, window and door repairs, drywall repair, painting and cleaning.
- Perform appliance and hearing alarm system maintenance and repairs.
- Conduct inspections of units and complete inspection reports.
- Identify and report any irregular, unsafe or hazardous conditions.
- Read water meters on a monthly basis.
- Monitor fluoride levels in tribal water system;
- Cleans grounds and parking lots, removing litter per daily schedule;
- Keep all outdoor trash containers empty;
- Perform custodial duties within assigned work areas;
- Maintains and repairs fences, gates, walls, water sprinkler system and walks;
- Maintain and paint inside and outside of buildings;
- Clean out drainage ditches and culverts often full of water. Perform water diversion projects during rainy season;
- Complete assigned tasks on a daily basis, as well as other duties as assigned; Hours are determined by 24-hour schedule and subject to seasonal changes;
- Secure tribal buildings at office closing;
- Assist Director with employee needs, such as moving desks and office equipment;
- Shovels snow from walks and driveways and apply approved deicing compounds on public passageways to prevent iced building and enforce safety in inclement weather;
- Properly maintains equipment and hand tools and assures safe and proper storage;
- Operate large equipment including tractor with attachments and lawnmowers;
- Assemble and disassemble damaged parts to building, facilities, wooden structures and assisting other workers as required;
- Ability to work under the direction of others in special projects and ongoing maintenance or assistance with grounds cleaning while maintaining a respectful, courteous manner;
- Cuts lawns, trim edges around walks, flowerbeds and walls;
- Prune shrubs and trees, removing dead heads from plants to encourage blooming and cleaning plans as needed;
- Maintain and repair pow-wow grounds, including grass, trees and shrubs and maintain them on a watering schedule;
- Set-up and take-down teepees;
- Provide graveside assistance for tribal members;
- Pump Lift Station during power outages;
- Clear roadways following wind storms;
- Provide coverage for custodial staff during absences;
- Supervise temporary/WEX staff;
- Other duties as assigned by Director.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED and 6-months experience in a facilities and grounds maintenance department - OR – one year experience in a facilities and grounds maintenance department.
Knowledge of:
- Facilities, roads, building, grounds and equipment maintenance, management and repair.
Experience in:
- Utilizing tape measures, rules, squares, compasses and levels.
- Working with machinery and electrical tools, saws, planes, sanders and other carpentry equipment.
- Painting techniques and standard surface preparation and coating methods.
- Working with computer controlled systems and computerized preventive maintenance and work order programs, preferred.
Ability to:
- Communicate well both orally and in writing, and be able to shift assignments based on priorities established.
- Regularly lift, carry, push, pull or move objects weighing 50 pounds; and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Keep simple records and make reports.
- Make accurate estimates of time and materials required for repairs and maintenance work.
Other:
- Must possess an Oregon Driver’s License by end of probationary period. Failure to do so will result in termination.
- Must possess and maintain first aid and CPR card, or have the ability to acquire within the first 6-months of hire.
