Certified Medical Assistant - Communicable Disease - Limited Duration

Starting Wage Range: $24.60/hr. - $31.84/hr.

Job Summary:

This position will serve to strengthen the Public Health programs’ capacity to prevent, test, and respond to HIV, STIs, Hepatitis C, and substance use disorders. Dedicated to providing rapid testing services, ensuring consistent availability for Grand Ronde Health & Wellness Center (GRHWC) patients. Provides quality health care in a warm and caring environment. Ensures that the provision of healthcare services takes place in a professional non-biased environment and is accomplished efficiently. This is a limited duration grant funded position; continuation beyond 12/31/2027 is dependent on further grant funding.

Essential Functions:

• Perform rapid Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) testing.
• Communicate testing results to patients receiving services.
• Provide assistance with contact tracing when applicable.
• Assist provider with follow-up care coordination.
• Provide support to assigned Public Health staff.
• Participate in Syndemic Clinical Support and/or Indian Country ECHO program offerings.
• Provide support with data collection and grant reporting.
• Participates in Public Health events.
• Coordinate referrals and follow-ups for individuals who test positive for an STI.
• Maintains supply inventory and assists with ordering medical supplies.
• Assists with minor procedures.
• Accurately records patient information in their health record.
• Maintains knowledge of infection control issues for proper reporting.
• Provides support to Public Health programs and campaigns.
• Follows OSHA guidelines.
• Administers immunizations, and injectable medications per written/verbal order.
• Assesses patient for adverse reactions.
• Maintains frequent contact with patients.
• Answers/returns telephone calls.
• Provides coordination of care with outside facilities for provider ordered diagnostic services.
• Provides patient education.
• Authorized to serve both eligible and non-eligible beneficiaries in an outreach capacity both on and off site.
• Performs a variety of other duties assigned by providers and supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Licenses:

• Requires a High School diploma or GED and minimum of two (2) years’ experience in medical assisting preferred or a minimum of one (1) year work experience in a medical clinic setting preferred.
• OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Driving Requirements:

• Employees may be required to drive for work-related purposes and must maintain a valid Oregon Driver’s License (ODL), meet company vehicle insurance requirements, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.

Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:

• Current certification as a Medical Assistant required.
• Knowledge of applied medical assisting principles.
• Current CPR/First Aid Certification required.
• Ability to operate a variety of medical equipment.
• Must have knowledge and experience in use of standard computer operation and software applications.
• Must have knowledge of OSHA Guidelines.
• Must have knowledge of infection control reporting.
• Must have a working knowledge of the Privacy Act/HIPAA and its applications.
• Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:

• Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
• Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
• Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
• Continually requires the use of vision, specifically close vision, color identification and depth perception.
• Continually required to handle soiled laundry.
• Occasionally required to wear safety glasses.
• Occasionally exposed to compressed gases and detergents.
• Occasionally requires lifting of up to 40 pounds.
• This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.

• Supports a safe work environment by performing all duties in accordance with Tribal safety policies and procedures, and Emergency Management Plan.

• Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
• May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies.
• Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.

• Candidates for this position will be subject to criminal and character background checks and may be subject to fingerprinting.

Experience

• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in medical assisting preferred or a minimum of one (1) year work experience in a medical clinic setting preferred
