SUMMARY
The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment across tribal government facilities, including administrative offices, dental clinics, and health center areas. This role is essential in supporting the health and well-being of employees, patients, and visitors by ensuring all areas meet cleanliness and sanitation standards.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs routine cleaning of offices, restrooms, common areas, and meeting spaces.
- Cleans and disinfects high-touch surfaces (e.g. door handles, desks, light switches).
- Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of dental and health clinic areas in accordance with applicable health and safety standards.
- Sweeps, mops, vacuums, and shampoos floors and carpets.
- Empties trash and recycling, replacing liners.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms; restocking supplies (e.g. soap, paper towels, toilet paper).
- Follows proper procedures for handling and disposing of medical or biohazard waste.
- Cleans exam rooms, waiting areas, and treatment areas as directed.
- Monitors and reports maintenance or safety issues (e.g. leaks, broken equipment).
- Maintains cleaning equipment and supplies; notifying supervisor when repair or restocking is needed.
- Responds appropriately to cleaning needs in clinical or emergency situations, following safety protocols and direction from clinical or supervisory staff.
- Maintains professionalism and composure when working in sensitive or high-stress environments.
- Ensures compliance with OSHA, infection control, and tribal health policies.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of all patient, employee, and tribal information encountered during the course of work, in accordance with applicable privacy laws and policies (including HIPAA where applicable).
- Assists with special cleaning projects or events as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
LEVEL OF AUTHORITY & RESTRICTIONS
- This position requires working independently without overseeing others, with no authority in decision-making.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance.
- Must be able to perform repetitive cleaning tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed in office, clinical, and public environments.
- May involve exposure to cleaning chemicals and biohazard materials (with proper training and PPE).
- May require evening or early morning shifts depending on facility needs, including potential on call hours.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 25 years of age or older per our vehicle use policy.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to be insured to drive Tribal Government vehicles.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred, especially in healthcare or clinical settings.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Ability to follow infection control and sanitation protocols.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, verbally, in writing or by other acceptable means.
- This position is considered a covered role. A state criminal background check and fingerprint-based background check will be required as a condition of employment.
- This position is designated as safety-sensitive and is subject to pre-employment and other authorized drug and alcohol testing in accordance with company policy. Please note that the use of marijuana is prohibited for employees in this position, regardless of state legalization status.
