SUMMARY

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for providing primary and preventative healthcare services to patients of all ages within the Three Rivers Health Clinic. The NP will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to address the physical, emotional, and social health needs of the tribal community, while honoring and integrating traditional healing practices where appropriate.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic illnesses.
  • Conducts physical exams, health screenings, and immunizations across the lifespan.
  • Prescribes medications and treatments in accordance with federal and tribal regulations.
  • Promotes disease prevention and healthy lifestyle practices through patient education and outreach.
  • Collaborates with tribal leaders and community health representatives to ensure culturally appropriate care.
  • Documents all patient encounters in the electronic health record (HER) accurately and timely.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, case reviews, and community health planning.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for medical assistants, nurses, and other staff.
  • Maintains knowledge of best practices in tribal health and indigenous health disparities.
  • Upholds patient confidentiality and clinic policies in accordance with HIPAA and tribal law.
  • Collaborates efficiently and effectively while consistently demonstrating professionalism and maintaining positive, respectful relationships with internal teams, external partners, and Tribal members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

LEVEL OF AUTHORITY & RESTRICTIONS:

  • This position requires working independently without overseeing others, with minimal authority in decision-making.

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed in a clinical healthcare setting, including exam rooms, treatment areas, and medical offices.
  • Regular exposure to biohazardous material including blood, body fluids, and blood-borne pathogens; strict adherence to OSHA standards and infection control protocols is required.
  • Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, medicinal preparations, disinfectants, and other substances commonly found in a healthcare environment.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials, including laboratory reagents, industrial cleaning agents, and limited ionizing radiation, depending on assigned work location.
  • Position requires consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, gowns, masks, face shields, or other protective barriers as appropriate.
  • Work environment may involve unpredictable or high-risk situations that require sound judgment, strict compliance with safety protocols, and the ability to respond calmly under pressure.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally pull, lift and/or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Requires working under stress in emergency situations.

Requirements:

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 26 years of age.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license and be able to be insured to drive Tribal Government vehicles.
  • Masters or doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state of Oregon.
  • Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience, including two (2) years as a nurse practitioner in an outpatient clinic.
  • National Board Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C or FNP-BC) preferred.
  • DEA license and prescriptive authority (or eligibility to obtain).
  • BLS/CPR certification required; ACLS preferred.
  • Must complete required safety, infection control, and blood-borne pathogen training and maintain compliance with all regulatory and organizational safety standards.
  • Knowledge of patient care standards, clinical regulations, and safe work practices.
  • Proficient in using medical equipment and instruments for patient care.
  • Skilled in clinical assessment, including taking medial histories and interpreting findings.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build trust with diverse populations.
  • Understanding, or willingness to learn about, tribal sovereignty, traditions, and healthcare practices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, verbally, in writing or by other acceptable means.
  • This position is designated as safety-sensitive and is subject to pre-employment and other authorized drug and alcohol testing in accordance with company policy. Please note that the use of marijuana is prohibited for employees in this position, regardless of state legalization status.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Indian preference will be observed in the hiring process.
