The Yakama Nation Tribal School Guest Teacher plays a vital role in ensuring instructional continuity and a safe, supportive learning environment when regular classroom teachers are absent. Guest Teachers are expected to maintain the integrity of established classroom routines, engage students in meaningful learning, and represent Yakama Nation Tribal School with professionalism and respect for the cultural values of our community.
Examples of Work Performed:
Provide instructions and supervision consistent with lesson plans, expectations, and classroom norms established by the regular teacher.
Foster a positive, respectful classroom environment that supports students' learning and well-being.
Uphold Yakama Nation Tribal School policies, procedures, and cultural expectations.
Manage classroom behavior in a calm and consistent manner aligned with schoolwide PBIS and MTSS principles.
Demonstrate professionalism in interactions with students, staff, and families.
Maintain confidentiality of student and school information.
Report student incidents, attendance, and other relevant information to the principal or designee at the end of each assignment.
Demonstrate adaptability and reliability when called upon, sometimes on short notice.
Assignments may very be grade level and content area (8-12).
Work performed in classroom and school environments with frequent student contact.
On-call schedule determined by school needs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Understanding of basic instructional practices, adolescent development, and classroom routines.
Familiarity with school policies, confidentiality requirements, and PBIS/MTSS frameworks.
Respect for and willingness to honor Yakama Nation cultural values and community expectations.
Ability to follow teacher-provided lesson plans and maintain instructional continuity.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills with students, staff, and families.
Effective classroom management skills that promote safety, respect, and student engagement.
Ability to respond calmly, consistently, and professionally to behavioral or unexpected situations.
Adaptability and problem-solving abilities, including flexibility with short-notice assignments.
Reliability, punctuality, and professionalism in all school interactions.
Ability to work independently while also collaborating positively with school staff.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and exercising sound judgment.
Minimum Requirements:
Washington State Teaching Certificate or Emergency Substitute Certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).
Associate or Bachelor's degree, or equivalent coursework in education or related field.
Prior classroom or youth supervision experience.
Familiarity with tribal communities, cultural responsiveness, or experience working with diverse learners.
Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
Must possess a valid first aid card.
Must have no history of drug or alcohol abuse.
Ability to complete a background check according to Yakama Nation Tribal School requirements.
Required to pass a pre-employment background check.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
Preferred Requirements:
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
Salary : $27 - $29
