Grant Coordinating Specialist

Fisheries Resources Management (FRM)

Department of Natural Resources

Hourly Wage: $32.75/Regular/Full-Time

Location: Toppenish

 

Track and coordinate grant funding opportunities related to natural resources, fisheries, environmental issues, and climate change that benefit the Yakama Nations goals for traditional uses. Will maintain and manage an inventory of grant opportunities and coordinate within the environmental section, within fisheries, and with our various natural resource programs to identify fundable projects and match them with of these opportunities. The position will assist in various levels of related documentation, including contracts, agreements, and reporting requirements. Conduct regular reviews and evaluations of grant-funding to assess effectiveness and impact. Manages the development and operation of a record system to inventory and track all grants and sub-grants. To ensure compliance, documenting policies, procedures, and record keeping, and reporting regarding all grant activity within the Environmental Section of Fisheries. The work is characterized by the need to manage critical, complex, time-sensitive grant projects to delivery, on time and within budget.

 

Examples of Work Performed:

Coordinate with the Fisheries Environmental Coordinator and the Fisheries Program Manager to identify program priorities and gather information on fundable projects that meet those priorities.

Work with Fisheries Environmental Section to develop a means of tracking funding opportunities.

Research and recommend funding opportunities from a broad range of sources, linking their compatibility with organizational needs.

Coordinate with fisheries and other Yakama Nation programs to match grant opportunities with fundable projects.

Develop a strategy for monitoring grants and ensure proper application of grant funding.

Maintain an organization-wide grants deadline calendar for tracking interim and final grant reporting.

Make recommendations on strategies, policies, and procedures related to proposals.

Maintain accurate database records of grant awards.

Communicate regularly with the Environmental Coordinator, Fisheries, Deputy Directors, Program Manager, and appropriate teams on the status of pending proposals and/or the progress on funded projects.

Quality control grant proposal submissions and follow up with applicants on missing/incomplete information or other application anomalies.

Review grant application and agreements for compliance (budgets and programmatic work plans) for projects relevant to the Yakama Nation Fisheries Environmental Section.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated writing ability for a public audience and for formal proposals/reports.

Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills to work effectively with people of diverse talent and background.

Demonstrated excellence in problem solving and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

Demonstrated excellent organizational and project management skills with self-initiative to prioritize multiple projects in order to meet deadlines.

Working knowledge of office practices, procedures, and business writing.

Knowledge of environmental concerns and issues as they pertain to the Yakama Nation.

Planning ability to work efficiently to meet the departmental budgets, goals, and objectives.

Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

Ability to maintain all grant/contract proposals through tracking and maintenance of a database for all funded and non-funded proposals.

Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.

 

Knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management principles and procedures.

Ability to conduct literature searches.

 

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in related field

OR

Three years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Able to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other staff members and members of the public.

Above average competency with using word processing, databases, spreadsheets, project management software and web applications.

Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving Permit.

Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
