Fire Control Worker I (4) Four Positions
Fire Management
Department of Natural Resources
Hourly Wage: $15.90/Temporary/Full-Time
The purpose of Fire Control Worker I is wildland suppression, management, control as a firefighter on an engine, helitack module or hand crew. Duties include fire prevention, patrol detection, prescribed burning, search and rescue, tree planting, fuels reduction and assisting the Yakama Nation community. The incumbent will also be involved with the maintenance and repair of firefighting tools, equipment, and facilities. Incumbent will receive basic firefighting training.
Examples of Work Performed:
Serves as a trainee firefighter to develop a working knowledge of fire suppression and fuels management techniques, practices and terminology.
Will be responsible to learn the following duties: safety rules, basic fire behavior, fire line construction, use of pumps and engines, hose lays using appropriate nozzle adjustments in the effective use of water additives, working in and around helicopters, dozers, fall buncher and skidders.
Move dirt, chop brush, small trees to construct fire lines using various hand tools including: Pulaski, shovels, McCloud, power tools, chainsaws and portable pumps to control spreading of wildland fire and prepare control lines prior to burning.
Patrol fire lines to locate and extinguish sparks, flare-ups and hotspot fires that may threaten developed fire lines.
Participate in fire and safety trainings, practices, and methods of fire suppression and in the safe efficient operation and use of tools, equipment and vehicle use in fire line activities.
Must participate in crew proficiency checks, drills, safety sessions and After Action Reviews and ensures safety in all aspects of the assignment.
Employee may be assigned to other duties which may include, but are not limited to: cleaning outside the recreational facilities, mow grass, trim shrubs, pull weeds, perform trail/building maintenance, complete resource management projects performing fire related or non-fire related.
Duties involve fieldwork requiring about average physical performance, endurance and superior conditioning.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to perform heavy physical work.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and use sound judgement.
Ability to operate various types of equipment in a safe efficient manner (chainsaw, hand tools, drip torch,).
Ability to work outside in various weather conditions and perform physical labor.
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Required to pass pre-employment drug test.
Must successfully complete Basic Firefighter Training.
Must successfully complete Introduction to ICS (1-100).
Must successfully complete Firefighter Training (S-130).
Must successfully complete Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service (L-180).
Must successfully complete Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (S-190).
The rigorous duties of this position requires the incumbent to meet the physical fitness test for arduous position.
The hazardous nature of the job requires that protective clothing to work, (hardhat, leather gloves, leather boots, flame resistant clothing and other personal protective equipment).
