Conexess Group
Farmington, MI Remote Full Time
POSTED ON 10/9/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/22/2026

The Technical Interoperability Lead is a hands-on technical position responsible for leading complex enterprise implementations involving healthcare interoperability, APIs, FHIR, identity and authentication, healthcare data standards, and system integrations.

This role serves as the primary technical point of contact for strategic customer implementations, partnering with customer technical teams, implementation partners, technology vendors, and internal stakeholders to assess technical requirements, determine feasibility, develop integration strategies, and guide successful implementation.

The Technical Interoperability Lead will translate complex business and technical requirements into practical implementation plans while identifying technical risks, dependencies, and system-level considerations. This position requires strong systems thinking, technical problem-solving, independent decision-making, and the ability to move between high-level architecture and hands-on implementation details.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary technical owner for assigned enterprise implementations, leading interoperability planning and technical execution from initial discovery through successful delivery.
  • Evaluate technical requirements and solution feasibility while identifying tradeoffs and recommending approaches that align with customer needs and platform capabilities.
  • Assess interoperability requirements within the broader customer technology environment, including systems of record, integration points, system boundaries, dependencies, and data flows.
  • Lead and participate in technical discovery sessions, interoperability workshops, architecture discussions, and implementation planning sessions.
  • Partner with customer technical leaders, implementation partners, technology vendors, and internal teams to establish technical direction and drive alignment.
  • Analyze technical documentation and artifacts, including API specifications, FHIR Implementation Guides, engineering documentation, authentication workflows, application logs, JSON payloads, data structures, and integration workflows.
  • Troubleshoot complex interoperability and integration challenges and develop practical recommendations for resolution.
  • Translate customer business and technical requirements into actionable implementation strategies, identifying risks, dependencies, integration patterns, and required technical resources.
  • Exercise independent technical judgment when evaluating implementation challenges and determine when additional support from Product, Engineering, Security, Data, or other technical teams is required.
  • Facilitate communication across multiple technical stakeholders while balancing customer objectives, technical constraints, industry standards, and implementation timelines.
  • Develop and maintain technical implementation documentation, architecture materials, interoperability guidance, customer-facing technical resources, and reference documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve technical delivery through reusable integration patterns, automation, technical tooling, and standardized implementation processes.
  • Develop lightweight technical utilities or scripts when appropriate to improve implementation efficiency and customer outcomes.
  • Capture implementation insights and provide feedback to Product and Engineering teams to improve platform capabilities and future implementations.
  • Stay current on healthcare interoperability standards, integration technologies, authentication methods, and emerging technical practices.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare Informatics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 5 years of experience leading customer-facing technical implementations, enterprise integrations, interoperability initiatives, technical consulting, or solution delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a technical owner for complex enterprise implementations or interoperability projects.
  • Strong experience evaluating technical approaches, identifying tradeoffs, and making independent technical recommendations.
  • Experience working directly with technical stakeholders, including enterprise architects, developers, IT leaders, implementation teams, and technology partners.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise integration technologies and healthcare interoperability standards, including:
    • REST APIs
    • HL7 FHIR
    • SMART on FHIR
    • US Core
    • FHIR Implementation Guides
    • HL7v2
    • Identity and authentication protocols
    • Enterprise integration patterns
    • Healthcare data exchange
  • Ability to interpret and work with technical artifacts such as API specifications, FHIR resources, JSON payloads, authentication workflows, application logs, customer data structures, and architecture documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ambiguous or complex technical requirements and translate them into clear, actionable implementation strategies.
  • Strong systems-thinking and technical problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent customer communication, presentation, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively coordinating resources across multiple technical and business teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with SQL, Python, scripting, APIs, automation, or technical development tools.
  • Experience developing reusable technical tools, scripts, automation, or integration frameworks.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms and enterprise identity technologies.
  • Experience with healthcare technology, healthcare data exchange, EHR integrations, or interoperability platforms.
  • Experience working with enterprise architecture and integration patterns.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development, automation, or emerging technologies used to improve technical delivery.
  • Relevant certifications in interoperability, APIs, cloud technologies, identity, security, or enterprise integration.
  • Experience working with FHIR-based implementations in complex healthcare environments.
