Core Responsibilities
- The job requires selected candidates to work on overhead transmission structures (steel and wooden poles) at high elevations and on the Transmission Rights-of-Ways (ROW). Selected candidates must demonstrate good oral and written communication skills. At times candidates will be required to work rotating schedules, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed to meet operational needs of the department. Must be able to obtain and maintain a CDL (Class A) driver's license.
- Knowledge and skill are required in the following areas but are not limited to: the ability to handle equipment including slings, shackles, and chain hoists; the use of hand and power tools; the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and/or electrical equipment; the ability to operate motors and pumping equipment; knowledge of safe work practices and environmental policies and procedures; the ability to perform standard maintenance functions, such as measuring, cutting and drilling, and handling cumbersome equipment.
- If extended a job offer, candidate will be required to obtain certifications from the American Red Cross for Adult First-Aid, CPR, AED and Blood Borne Pathogens at their cost.
Required Education/Experience
- High School Diploma/GED
Preferred Education/Experience
- Experience associated with overhead distribution or transmission line work.
Relevant Work Experience
- Position requires selected candidates to work on overhead transmission structures (steel and wooden poles) at high elevations and on the Rights-of-Ways (ROW).

Licenses & Certifications
- Driver's License Required
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class A Preferred
Physical Demands
- Must respond to system emergencies
- Must perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
- Must perform heavy manual labor; i.e. pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds
- Must carry tools and materials, climb ladders and scaffolds, and enter confined spaces
- Must work in an environment that includes heat, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Must work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Must work with and in the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Must be approved and able to wear either a full- or half-face respirator without facial hair or other condition that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations.
- Must stand, walk, and climb ladder and stairs for a whole shift
- Must walk, stand, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach
- Must use hand tools and operate heavy equipment,i.e. jackhammers
- Must free climb ladders up to 475 feet high
- Must wear all necessary personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including; fire retardant clothing and safety harness
- Must work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
- Must work with equipment with manufacturer weight rating of 350 llbs.
- Must be able to use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375 lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment.
