Role: The Professor of Anthropology is a teaching faculty member who conducts their work according to the full-time faculty policies and procedures and is involved with instruction, curriculum development, assessment and student research in areas related to anthropology, culture, and linguistics. The professor engages with other departments, School and University faculty, and staff to further the mission and scope of the educational goals as set and determined through faculty governance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to accomplish each of the below duties satisfactorily:
- Be an effective teacher in the classroom and evaluate, and if appropriate, implement student, peer, and supervisor comments and critiques.
- Work with department and school faculty to help students to build a sense of academic community involving mentorship and engagement with the content and mission of the University.
- Oversee active learning opportunities for participants as anthropologists and behavioral scientists, instilling a culture of academic curiosity and courage.
- Assist with connecting the program to the local community, professionally and corporately, and encouraging student practicum and internship opportunities.
- Assist the department and school in recruiting efforts with prospective students and families.
- Fulfill Concordia faculty staff and responsibilities
- Other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience:
- Must meet Concordia University Irvine faculty requirement with a Ph.D preferred in an area of Anthropology and a minimum of a Master's degree.
- Must be an active member of a Christian congregation, preferably of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.
- Experience and desire in the teaching and instruction of undergraduates including within the major and Q&I curriculum.
- Experience and desire in recruiting and connecting with potential program students, families, and communities
- Have working knowledge of undergraduate research methods and opportunities.
