This role advises a cohort of traditional undergraduate students and coordinates student success initiatives. All activities of this position are to make a contribution to the fulfillment of the mission of the university.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Academic Advising (75%)

  1. Formulate basic graduation plans for assigned students.
  2. Create and bi-annually update graduation plans.
  3. Interpret and record academic placement.
  4. Regularly communicate with students via email, phone conversations, and one-on-one appointments
  5. Advise (with an 90% degree of accuracy) students to make informed decisions regarding choice of major, dropping or adding classes, and satisfactory academic progress
  6. Participate in carrying out registration procedures including satisfactory academic progress toward graduation
  7. Evaluate summer school course selection for students
  8. Responsible for knowledge of academic policies, majors, minors, and programs for current catalog year within the first 6-9 months and prior to meeting with students
  9. Collaborate with advising team on additional departmental tasks: a) updating checklists for all
    undergraduate majors; b) mapping courses in major and assessing course schedule conflicts; c) reviewing
    and editing four-year course grid; d) updating web site information; or e) comparing the four-year grid with
    class schedule to verify course offerings

Student Success (25%)

  1. Research and implement student success strategies that are data informed.
  2. Write and compile regular reports on Enrollment, Reenrollment, Department Assessment, and Cohort Sizes.
  3. Support the Experiential Learning processes with Study Abroad and Internships.
  4. Help lead and support a team of academic advisors and the day-to-day functions of the Learning Commons space.
  5. Create and present student success workshops, academic advising, college transition presentations
  6. Manage academic advising projects (4 year course grid, Degreeworks templates, training manual, etc.)
  7. Oversee hiring, onboarding, training and supervision of Academic Advisors and the Department Assistant.
  8. Serve on campus committees (Athletic Compliance, Retention, Department Collaboration, Student Affairs Directors, etc)
  9. Collaborate with the Director of DAS on coordination of the finals week scheduling system.
  10. Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Student Development.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises the Advising staff and Department Assistant. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; facilitating team meetings, professional development and appraising performance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred.

Full Time Staff, Exempt

$68,640 - 69,000/yr
