Role: The Tutoring Coordinator and Success Coach is responsible for assisting the Director in the management of tutoring operations and in supporting the University's goal to provide targeted outreach for students in need or at risk academically. This includes, but is not limited to, scheduling staff, providing training, evaluating services, coordinating communications to promote services, maintaining records, and writing reports. The Tutoring Coordinator and Success Coach also collaborates with the HSI Project Director, as well as faculty, student success staff, and other campus offices to provide cohesive academic support for all undergraduates and to meet the distinct needs of Hispanic and low-income students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to accomplish each of the below duties satisfactorily:

Tutoring Services

  1. Assist in the management of daily operations and activities for Tutoring Services.
  2. Collaborate with faculty to identify and select tutors.
  3. Manage the hiring and scheduling of tutors in coordination with the Director of Writing Studio/Tutoring Services.
  4. Oversee the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Tutoring Essentials training program.
  5. Coordinate and organize on-going training and professional development for tutors.
  6. Supervise and mentor part-time tutors.
  7. Monitor Tutoring Services budget expenditures to ensure budgeted amounts are not exceeded.
  8. Keep current on research, best practices, and new initiatives regarding tutoring and academic support.
  9. Maintain working relationships with academic departments.
  10. Develop outreach and publicity efforts to create awareness of tutoring and academic support services through a variety of communication channels and methods.
  11. Collaborate with relevant departments to promote and market tutoring and academic support programs.
  12. Monitor website content and recommend changes and updates.
  13. Provide academic support workshops in first-year programs and across departments/schools, as needed.
  14. Develop and connect students to appropriate resource materials to support student success.
  15. Meet regularly with the Writing Studio/Tutoring Services Director to develop, prioritize, and organize specific goals.
  16. Assist the Director in collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports, and implementing assessment strategies to improve services.
  17. Participate in meetings and conferences related to current developments in tutoring centers, teaching, research, and scholarship regarding best practices.
  18. Other duties as assigned.

Success Coach for Specific Populations

  1. Provide targeted outreach to students identified as being in need or at risk as determined by academic dismissal, academic probation, and academic warnings.
  2. Connect with students to assess academic needs, assist them in setting goals, and refer them to appropriate resources.
  3. Communicate to other offices, departments, staff, and faculty, as needed, with respect to available resources for at risk students.
  4. Implement and execute HSI grant initiatives, particularly success strategies to assist Hispanic and lowincome students.
  5. Meet regularly with the HSI Project Director and staff to assess and ensure HSI program accountability.
  6. Maintain records of meetings with students and document student interaction. Collect data for the purpose of analyzing and reporting to appropriate stakeholders with attention to student confidentiality.

Supervisor Responsibilities:

Supervise the Tutoring Center undergraduate staff with on onsite presence. Carry out supervisory responsibilities, such as time sheet approval, in accordance with the University's policies and applicable laws. Fulfill the Director's duties in lieu of the Director's absence.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field (i.e. English, writing, education, mathematics, or business) from a four-year college or university
  • 1-3 years experience teaching/tutoring
  • Supervisory or management experience
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office, Learning Management Systems (such as Canvas) and teleconference technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in related field (i.e. English, writing, education, mathematics, or business) from a four-year college or university
  • At least two years of experience tutoring
  • Full-time experience teaching
  • Previous Tutoring/Learning Center management experience
  • Experience working with college students
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish
