The Senior Institutional Data Analyst is a technical lead in the Office of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness. The position is responsible for the design, creation, and maintenance of institutional data to support quality programs, student success and institutional effectiveness initiatives. This position has a special emphasis on data transformation, data lifecycles, and visualization. The position will receive projects with greater complexity and larger stakeholder groups. The position documents code, mining procedures, data quality, and visualization templates. The position will manage data inquiries from the University constituents, design surveys, and provide support for strategic planning, assessment, accreditation, and program review. After onboarding, this position can work up to 2 days a week from home with the rest on campus and will work in collaboration with the team members from the Office of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness and other university offices on assigned projects. The position is responsible for data security and data accuracy in reporting.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Technical lead on data extraction projects tied to requests going to the Office of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness. Responsible for writing technical requirements as needed. Positively interact with requestors as required to clarify or gather requirements.
- Extract, combine, and manipulate data sets from Ellucian Banner ERP, Blackboard, CRM and other external data sources to drive effective strategic and programmatic decision-making, research, compliance, assessment, university accreditation and institutional improvement.
- Author automation scripts to make data mining and analysis replicable on all regular work, using AI responsibly as needed.
- Quality Control reviewer for work performed by other analysts in the Office of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness.
- Learn new analytical tools, or updated features of existing tools, especially R and Tableau, and serve as a change agent for the Office of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness for these innovation initiatives.
- Manage aspects of survey administration, including data collection, data analysis, report writing, and presentations as needed.
- Create, edit, and maintain internal and external reports using R, Excel, or other data analytic tools.
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative research; prepare technical reports and other publications for the university and accrediting bodies.
- Perform statistical analysis; interpret statistical outputs for faculty and other administrators for programmatic and business decisions; generate charts, tables, and other visualizations.
- Provide templates for and collaborate with others to create and maintain effective, valid, and reliable performance indicator dashboards and report cards for University initiatives.
- Analyze, translate, and disseminate data in user-friendly manner, using data visualization on the web, visual documents (e.g., tables, charts, graphs, etc.) and disseminate results via appropriate electronic media, such as web sites, written reports, and in-person presentations.
- Provide regular feedback on best practices in data-driven institutional planning and research and develop innovative systems to improve data collection, database content, streamline data analysis and reporting for greater efficiency. Make cases for software updates or changes as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned, such as serving on committees, being an institutional contact, etc.
Skill Sets:
- Highly proficient in the use of statistical analysis software such as R.
- Data visualization experience required, preferably in Tableau
- Proficient in command line programming and SQL
- Ellucian Banner ERP experience required
- Previous experience working with CRM data helpful, but not required
- Strong ability to clean, merge, maintain and analyze large data sets
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and meet project deadlines
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and work with teams
- Maintain confidentiality, demonstrate knowledge and understanding of ethics in data collection and analysis
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in order to prepare statistical reports for internal and external stakeholders and ability to explain methods and analysis of data to audience with varying levels of expertise
- Strong analytical skills and strong attention to detail
- Familiarity with survey tools such as Qualtrics helpful
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Minimum Experience Required:
5 years of experience working in a computer, strategic planning and/or institutional research support role. Candidate needs to demonstrate technical expertise working with a large database including Ellucian Banner ERP and building documentation.
Education Requirements:
Master's Degree preferred in educational research, data science, business analytics, social/behavioral sciences or related field. Bachelor's degree required. Tableau certification preferred.
