Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the full-time, exempt position of Academic Support Coordinator. This position reports directly to the Director of Academic Support and Associate Dean of Students, Academic Resources, and is located in River Forest, IL. This position is responsible for assisting the Director of Academic Support in managing the day-to-day operations of the CULearn academic programs, including assisting with student staff training and supervision. In addition, the Academic Support Coordinator will assist in developing and promoting educational support programming and initiatives and represent CULearn at various campus events.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Promotes and coordinates the use of CULearn academic support services across the student population in-person across campus, virtually in online courses, and via social media
- Researches, develops, and leads study-skills workshops and academic coaching sessions
- Surveys, assesses, and reports academic support program outcomes
- Assists with the recruitment, training, professional development, and scheduling of student staff
- Serves as a mentor and resource for all students, including those who receive learning accommodations or who are on academic probation
- Sends and files student letters of accommodation
- Provides professional, responsible, timely, and compassionate communication with all university stakeholders
- Collaborates with faculty and staff to promote academic support resources that contribute to student retention
- Represents CULearn at undergraduate orientations, admitted student days, visit days, and other recruitment initiatives for incoming students and their families
- Conferences with prospective students and their families during admission tours on an as-needed basis
- Collaborates with the Associate Dean of Academic Resources to develop an Oak Park River Forest community tutoring program
- Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS)
Skill Sets:
- Bilingual Spanish is preferred but not required
- Ability to communicate using American Sign Language is preferred but not required
- Working familiarity with using social media in a professional capacity
- Strong interpersonal/human relations skills with students, institutional personnel, and the public
- Excellent verbal, written, and listening skills
- Commitment to supporting the needs of students, especially those from underrepresented populations
- Ability to work collaboratively but also independently
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to meet deadlines and problem-solve effectively
- Enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education and Concordia University Chicago
- Technologically proficient; knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Office, Navigate, Banner, DegreeWorks, Blackboard Learn, Blackboard Analytics/Intelligence, Argo, or Qualtrics is a plus
- Exhibits a service mentality toward all stakeholders
- All communication with stakeholders is effective, professional, accurate, and timely
- Improves work performance and that of others by being receptive to and appropriately sharing information
- Ability to work afternoons and evenings
Minimum Experience Required:
- Record of strong undergraduate achievement
- History of campus engagement
- Experience with event organization and promotion
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Communication, Marketing, Design, Education, Humanities, or a related field required
